When I returned my M card to the store, the rep mentioned they were being decommissioned “soon”, and I was having problems with my MoCA and sharing between my bolt and Mini, so yeah, I do see it as a head start.

But like I said, I remember first seeing TiVo at David Coursey’s Digital Living Room event and getting rainbow colored peanut remotes as giveaway before getting my first S1, then beta testing 2.0 and watching this community and the technology grow across standalones and DTV hardware and more. Really feels like end of era for me!
I feel the same way and have been with them from series 2 - present with either an Ota or cable unit over the years.

I understand, it’s a great technology and the history but it’s getting to that point where you need to consider it if you are having issues frequently. If no issues then yeah hold on as long as possible. ✌

Investigate before making statements that are not true for all areas.
You tend to do a lot of that on this forum.
I suggest you do the same. When a member says TiVo is unreachable & asks “Any insight how to contact their customer service that works.” Once another member answers his question after verifying everything is working including the phone number you should probably “investigate” before replying with a smart comment “Guess you missed this part” with ops original quote “I have tried…By Phone” included.

I do not think all cable providers is that far off however several would be accurate or even 85-90 something percent imo. I would agree that “all” was not the right word. I forget to add imo often including in the original post so that can be confusing. This list below does not include the providers that offered promotions & no longer support ccs for any customers. I do not have time to research more right now but I think we can agree several providers currently & in the past have encouraged customers to leave the cc behind with special offers.

Spectrum:

  • Apple TV for 50% off or a standard DVR free for 24 months as a transition for Cable Card customers

  • CloudDVR to CableCard customers free for 24 months
Xfinity:

  • Promotional Offer:
CableCARD customers upgrading to an X1 TV Box may be eligible for a promotional offer, such as a $0 x 12 month offer to add up to two X1 boxes.

Starting October 24, 2024, Xfinity will no longer provide new CableCARDs to new or existing customers, meaning they are phasing out CableCARD support and encouraging customers to switch to IP-based TV services or Xfinity-issued units………………………………………………………………..
  • Fios is sending emails to some customers. Here is one customers experience: “They sent me new boxes unsolicited three weeks ago and I sat on them until last Thursday when our TV service suddenly ceased. What I learned was that once they send new set-top boxes and a new router, the fuse is lit for your existing equipment to cease working. I had no success getting service back myself (ONT box needs to replaced as well) so I had to wait 5 days for a Verizon tech who got things working. MY TIVO BOX is still functioning which was my biggest reason for waiting. The tech said if it worked before the change it’ll continue to work, which it did after a reset of my TiVo box. So far I like the two new Fios boxes, which seem to be an upgrade over my previous 12 year old equipment. I need to spend more time with them though. One thing I’m not happy about is that it seems I was tricked into 300/300 internet - which seems to be a requirement with the new set top boxes, when I had been fine with 75/75. To keep my already outrageous monthly bill within $30 of what it was, they seem to have reduced my channel package. I’m no longer getting HBO and STARZ and some others. Could be a mistake, but I’m suspicious. I haven’t had the energy to make that call yet. The whole experience was more exhausting than I’ve described.” Photo of the email is attached.

I don't recall the channel being changed, but you can choose a specific channel or any channel. If you choose any channel, you get it when it moves, but you also get reruns etc., on other channels, whether you wanted them or not.

Certainly after CW jumped stations in my area (the CW affiliate was bought by a company that wanted different programming; luckily another channel took it over), I started doing more of the "any channel". But then with SD only being a good way to save space but also a good way to miss it, I went back to specific channels. The under 500 for the most part, so SD when it can.

For the better part of over a decade TiVos can store up to or well over 150 hours of HD programming, depending on model.

Your concerns of needing to use SD to “save space“ is a concern that almost no one else has.

You also do not “get reruns” by selecting All Channels. Recordings are based on channel and the original air date, which determines if an episode is new or not. If a OnePass is recording reruns, it’s because of the OAD and nothing else.

Many of my shows aired elsewhere, and TiVo SOMETIMES classifies them as repeat, sometimes new. Some series are CW/Canada partnerships and their air on CW after the season finished in Canada, and they are unpredictable.

As for space, with some movie series on HMM, they are unpredictable whether or not they call them new, so I record all and delete the dups. I also try to keep the whole series so I can easily see if I've seen them (I know I can bookmark them instead, never tried that). I also have some series (new or "classic" that I watch when I ger around to it so I have a lot of unwatched episodes. When I started getting over 70% I started to go SD only, when it got around 90% I started noticing that some of my SD channels were recording HD.
