Using non-pro Slide remote with Bolt

Hi guys, I've got a new Bolt and I'm using an older Slide remote with it, the non-pro version with the dongle. Response is sluggish after pairing and range is limited - is this normal? Are there any tricks to improve response?

(I'm not using the included dongle currently)
