Has anyone else received an email from TIVO saying they are eliminating annual plans. They are being replace with a monthly plan. Mine said I would receive a discount for being a loyal annual subscriber. My cost would be $9.99 instead of the usual $14.99 per month. Not sure if this will affect lifetime plans.

I was on the annual plan because it offered a replacement warranty. When Optimum stopped supporting Cable Card and I started using my Bolt for OTA I called and got a deal to make it lifetime. With no new OTA TiVo being available now I figured I'd just ride this one out as long as I can. If you have a Cable only TiVo, or can't get good OTA, monthly might be best now.

I also have a Bolt that will do CableCARD and OTA. I got a "deal" from TiVo back in 2018 when I was in their beta test program to convert the Bolt to lifetime. I switched over from Comcast Xfinity to YouTube TV two years ago and have been using my TiVo for OTA ever since. I have a spare 3TB Toshiba drive for the Bolt, so I am riding it out also until TiVo pulls the plug or I have to replace the hard drive with the spare, and that replacement bites the dust, whichever comes first.

I have DISH and use TIVO for OTA channels only. I have 3 Roamios and one Bolt. I hate the Bolt. I have been on the annual plan since I started with TIVO years ago. I prefer annual plans whenever possible on all my services streaming as well as TIVO. My wife and i love the ease of using TIVO so we will continue with the monthly plan as long as TIVO is around. I keep hoping someone will come up with a replacement for TIVO that is just as easy to use.

I remember when I had the Big Dish C-Band service. IT was easy to use as well. I even added KU -Band later and liked it also. Then when DISH came along and the Big Dish program providers went away I even got one of the new smaller receivers that did not requires a sub to get lots of stuff that was up there for free. I soon discovered that the new system was way too difficult for us to use successfully. but we kept it. When a hail storm destroyed my Big Dish we went with DISH.

Will TIVO still convert existing receivers to lifetime?

Actually this is also an effort at conserving clients. The chances an annual plan person sees the bill coming and cancels is much higher than a person who just pays 15 bucks a month. Similar to what some insurance companies do they'd prefer to have you pay those annoying small premiums instead of a big huge bill you may not have the money for all at once.

“Existing users are not “loosing” their cards.”

existing users can loose their cards if they make any change to the existing plan.
Existing users can modify their account in such a way that makes their plan incompatible with a cablecard, which they are told prior to accepting the change.

Any “loosing” is at their own decision.
I “loose” my card every time I pull it out of the cable card slot.😉

It appears now you can buy an EDGE (for cable) for $25 .....XPERI sees the writing on the wall and I suspect the cable companies have plans that will begin to follow. Cable subscribers with any of the companies are dropping thousands every month. I notice that SPECTRUM is trying to keep customers by offering the different streaming subscriptions (NETFLIX-HULU-DISNEY) along with their internet services. I also see that XPERI's plans are aimed at new opportunities rather than TIVO customers with cable company subscriptions.
Here's their stockholder latest press release:

That deal has been going on for years. TiVo’s been reading that wall for awhile.

I am a "lifetimer" and I have not received any communication from TiVo yet.

I just went to the tivo.com website and they are still selling the TiVo Edge with the AIP. So they are clearly still offering lifetime. In fact, they are still offering the annual plan, as well as the MTM plan (with a one year commitment).

So it actually looks like there is no true MTM option being sold with their current hardware. Even the MTM plan requires a one year commitment.

Weird, I wonder if they are just starting this new policy with current subscribers.

Wow. Feels like they’re preparing for shutdown.
It is suspicious to me if they only offer a monthly plan and not an annual plan. My annual plan renews in January so I have not received a letter from TiVo yet.
Using an analogy, if my landlord told me that he was not going to renew my lease, but that I could go month-to-month, I would start looking for another apartment. Sounds like my landlord is not willing to commit to the next 12 months.

If they were thinking of stopping the service, I think they might welcome annual subs. They get to keep the money when they stop (and unscrupulously hide a line in the fine print).

All of my TiVo DVRs have Lifetime right now. (My Roamio is the only one being used right now). I hope they don't make it so that I can no longer use my devices. My collection dates back to an HDR112 from September 1999 with grandfathered Lifetime service that was NEVER TRANSFERRED! The activation date on that was 12/16/1999! But this could be the end. I am currently thinking about what will be next in my journey if they get rid of it. I will have to think.

"It is hard to make predictions, especially about the future". That said, TiVo has not suggested that is going to happen. For those that choose to wallow in FUD they may spend resources worrying about something for which they will have no control over should it ever happen (just like the Yellowstone supervolcano).

Personally, should TiVo ever make such an announcement of a shutdown date, I will then review the options available at that time (I do watch the market space, but I do not do deep deep dives on the products, for next month things will be all different all over again).

Today was the day for me. Disconnected my lifetime 4 tuner OTA Tivo Edge. I had disconnected my 3 Tivo mini's a while back. Technology has left them behind. I have Directv Stream and Tablo. I don't need RG6 and/or ethernet connections to my TV's. I have Roku's and can do just about everything the Tivo's did, as far as recordings and watching Apps on one device, that cost a lot less then Tivo's.

I also was getting tired of having to sign in every time a phone app or software change was made.
Every time there was a power outage or a mini was unplugged I had to reboot everything to get them working again.

Been with Tivo one way or another since 2003 when they came out with DirectTivo's.
They were great but Tivo gave up on us and decided cable companies were more important. No updates or any innovation for years.

They did not so much give up, as the market they hoped for never happened. The consumers went elsewhere, and numbers matter, and TiVo pivoted in order to survive as a company. They might have built a better mousetrap, but other mousetraps came on the market that were good enough.

Xperi (XPER) is back in the headlines after news broke that it's being dropped from the S&P Software & Services Select Industry Index.

This index removal comes at a time when Xperi’s performance has been mixed. While there’s been a mild uptick over the past week, the longer-term picture is tougher: the stock is down about 27% in the past year and nearly 72% over three years.

The deed is done, folks. No more Lifetime or yearly plans. Everything is now $14.99/month. I believe the changeover happened on October 1st, when they removed all remaining Edge for Cable & Mini LUX boxes for sale from their website.
