Yes, the old TA and the new HSC are two-way, that is really their primary purpose. So, a boneheaded setup error that has been reported before. The problem about changing plans has also been reported and with mixed outcomes. I am concerned about it myself and will probably avoid changing plans. If you get a promotional rate it will only last for a certain time and then you're right back where you were. Some people have been able to change plans and keep their cable cards. Call back and try again, maybe ask for a supervisor, or talk about cancelling to get to retention. Make your position clear -- you want a better rate and you want to keep your cable card. If they won't, threaten an FCC complaint or email to Charter corporate (email addresses are available). But understand it is a bluff and don't get too high on the horse. You don't really have a right to a promotional rate. I am also in DFW and it looks like high split is coming soon in a number of areas. My letter (Rockwall) said on or after March 15th. I have said before, in the Spectrum universe, our service here in DFW has not been too bad.

We are in Lake Dallas Texas, north of Dallas.

The email was incorrect and misleading, they only sent the HSC, not the other items.

I got it hooked up and it wasn't working so called the CableCard support line and while they knew what a CableCard was they couldn't get it working, even after trying to reprovising it,so they had to send a tech.

When the tech arrived he wasn't happy that it was a CableCard call, but he called his boss and his boss told him what to do.

the key was that it needed to be setup in "Two Way Mode" - once he called the Cable Card support people and they put it in two way it worked great.

Now we have a new problem.....

My dad's bill seems really high. When I call and try to get a lower bill they say they have promotions but he is setup on their "old billing system" and to get any promos he has to be moved to their "new billing system".......but to do that they have to remove the cablecards from the account as the new system does not support them.

This just seems crazy

 

Crazy, but that’s what they do.

Where are you located? Spectrum seems to be doing a little better at supporting existing cable card customers. I agree you probably don't need the new cable card, but interesting they are sending it. If you have any trouble getting the HSC to work (it may blink for a long time before booting up) call the cable card support line 866-532-2598. They may need to reprovision the old CC or the new one. Also, even if it seems to be working, make sure they have added it to your account or you may not get premium channels.

 

You should always be scared when dealing with Spectrum.

Looks like they’re sending more than you need. All you need is the HSC.

If they are sending you a new card, hopefully they haven’t un-paired your existing card. There’s no reason you’d need to use a different card with the HSC. If still paired, the existing card will work fine.

It‘ll be easier to only have to worry about connecting the HSC and not doing that AND a new card so hopefully they kept that old card paired. If you don’t need the new card and they’re not charging you for it, it may be worth putting it in a drawer for a rainy day since they aren’t shipping a lot out any more.
