I watched last week's episode 10 a second time, something I almost never do. It was really well done.

The winter hiatus show, where it covers the ending of the previous show (where it was revealed Gibbs shot the guy) as a "6 months ago" flashback that covers what happened in those 6 months to basically when the show opened.

It was a remarkably good episode.

Then again, maybe it was because we got to see Gibbs be the most not-Gibbs ever, and the landlady playing a role you didn't expect.

Whoever planned out the episodes definitely had it pause on a high note.

While we're on hiatus, I re-watched on Hulu the three 2010 NCIS episodes where Hernandez's daughter, now head of the cartel, went after Gibbs for the shooting. That began in the episode titled Borderland, in which Abby gets pulled into investigating the death in Mexico, as excerpted the video posted earlier in this thread.

I got a kick out of seeing Jaqueline Obradors, who was later in Bosch, playing the daughter Paloma Reynosa. Also Dylan Bruno from the Numb3rs cast and elsewhere, as a disgraced former Army Ranger sent after Gibbs, Mike Franks, and Lara Macy.

I keep wondering if a young Lara Macy will show up in Origins to investigate Gibbs for the shooting. The outlines of that plot was already written as part of a two-part 2009 NCIS episode called Legend.

Why doesn't NCIS Origins have a proper office? They may be trying but the Navy and Marine Corps weren't that WOKE then. The writers are too young to know the times. I was a Marine from 1968 to 1990 so I know a thing or two about the way it should be.

I just watched one of the reruns on Ion and evidently Gibbs and ducky met way before he even went to sniper School why hasn't he been worked in on the show at all ducky along with Gibbs are two iconic rolls sadly ducky is dead but just like there's a young Gibbs there's a young ducky use the same guy they used previous they just need to bring him in

Did not see the Lala thing coming though. Gonna miss her. But this makes sense of course, because that character is never mentioned in NCIS.

Her final talk with Lara "Mace" Macy wasn't mentioned in Legend either. In that episode, Gibbs learned only that back in the day Mace had decided to scrap her investigation of the Hernandez case because it was the right thing to do, as opposed to just screwing it up as Gibbs had assumed. I guess we'll just have to assume Gibbs spoke to Mace again sometime in the next year, and finally learned what Lala had done for him.

(Legend was the NCIS: LA backdoor pilot, but the Mace character did not return for that series, probably because the actor Louise Lombard did not return for the role. Her absence was explained with a brief mention then. In the next season of NCIS Mace was killed off-screen, when people from Gibbs' past were being murdered in the episode Patriot Down.)

In this Origins episode, we meet Diane for the first time. (Run, Gibbs! LOL.) She eventually married Gibbs, then Fornell.

I wish I could have put all that together.
It helps to have watched the old seasons in recent years. When they first aired I was in the sandwich stage of life (kids, elder care, etc.) and mostly just watched random episodes on vacations and business trips. Now thanks to Netflix and Hulu I'm almost caught up.

Also... I often used to change the channel because I couldn't take NCIS seriously while the actor playing Ziva was so obviously not Israeli, or even trying to act or sound Israeli. (ETA: that's the sort of thing that bothers me in all shows... wrong accents, wrong ethnicity... also fake stunts, fake kisses, fake guns, and basically being asked to pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.)
