Of all the reboots, remakes etc we've seen over the years, is this the first one where the characters acknowledge that the original was just a TV show? (Yes, I realize that special circumstances have it make sense here, I'm just wondering if we've seen the name being part of TV history rather than "real" history)

 

I think you are right, it may be the one and only. That was a twist in itself. You kind of expect this was going to be a regular reboot where at least the main character was related somehow to the original character. And, I really did love the original Matlock. But this was good too.

We liked it. I wasn't totally shocked by the end of the episode, but I do like the twist.

 

I thought it was just OK, and then the twist came and won me over. I'll be back.

 

My wife and I enjoyed it. Great twist at the end.

 

Somehow I missed this. Since the next ep is a few weeks away, does anybody know if E01 will be re-airing before that?

I never watched the original series (maybe an episode here and there), so I almost decided not to watch it at all. But I'm a big fan of Jason Ritter, so decided to record it. I really enjoyed it, and did not see the plot twist coming at all.

 

I would watch the original with my grandmother when it originally aired.

 

All the previews projected the final plot twist so that wasn't a shock but it was still worthy of watching more.

 

Ironically, I had no interest until I heard about the twist. So now I want to see it...even though the twist has been spoiled.

 

We enjoyed it, though I wasn't crazy about the ending. Not a fan of the ubiquitous mythology side stories.

 

It's also on CBS's YouTube channel.

They apparently really want people to watch it.

 

I thought it was okay. Not great, but earned a second episode. The twist was interesting, but the show has to earn an SP, not just a twist.

IDK. Revenge went on for 4 seasons and that had the same idea of false-identity-to-solve-mystery...

 

I read an interview with the showrunner on tvline and she says the [thing we're all talking about] is going to be resolved at the end of S1 and then we'll go in a new direction, much like "Elsbeth"'s storyline thread last year is more or less resolved.

 

Holy ****. Bates was perfect for this role. I'm really looking forward to more.
BTW she has amazing eye color. I never noticed it before.

I thought it was going to be a "Misery", and was waiting for her to say "I'm your number one fan", but I liked it anyway. She's a great great actor.... Lots of talent.

sometime during the show's run she should be in a blue seersucker outfit, even if only for one scene.

 

It would have been more interesting, and a far better tease and pilot end if they had ended the show after she got into the limo and put her expensive ring on, with the limo driving away being the final shot of the episode.

A far superior "What the hell just happened?" moment.

I hope they add something that flashes back to Fried Green Tomatoes. After all, she is older and has even better insurance.

 

Honestly I wouldn't have watched, except for Fried Green Tomatoes. It's my wife's favorite show, and if she sees it's on TV, it takes precedence over anything else, new or old. But why, you say, doesn't she just watch our DVD? She does that too, but she doesn't care if there's commercials on TV. And if she sees it pop up as a suggested program on one of the streaming services, why she'll watch it there, too.

Kathy Bates is in this show, so we watched. And I quite enjoyed it, much more than High Potential.
