To add a bit to the response, Altice/Optimum decided not to deal with the EOL of the majority of their CableCARDs (it was going to cost them a lot of money for a very small customer base, and they were moving their TV customers to various IPTV solutions anyway, so they decided to just end support). Every operators situation was different (and some operators had different situations in different markets), so not every operator made the same decisions at the same time. But even for operators that still support (the word I would use is tolerate rather than support) existing CableCARD customers, it is not common that any major operator will issue new CableCARDs (so there is mostly no way to go back).
