Picture started becoming a bit blocky yesterday so I called Verizon] and the agent tried to pretend it was because I use old-technology cable cards. Which I know to be hogwash.
But she seemed determined to get me to "upgrade" my service and kept going offline to get permission to give me some latest chargeable item for free so that I couldn't say no! Now I am getting all-new equipment, a multiroom DVR, a complete installation (no mean feat given that Fios could never before extend my WiFi to the extremities of my flat)
And all for only $4 a month more than I am now paying!
Does anyone know how badly this is going to work in practice compared to my present TIVO service? Is there anything wrong with the Fios multi-room DVR compared with TIVO/KMTTG? e.g can you not transfer recordings off it onto your own (semi-permanent) storage?
I do know a few things to watch for besides WiFi not getting as far as my bedroom/office. e.g. does their router implement some protocol which conflicts with (and prevents operation of) my various VoIP Services. And she said I"ll still be able to use my TIVO DVRs, which I know to be not true; as well as ad-skip that I at present get through KMTTG
So what other surprises do I have in store? I did already check to make sure that all these new free services are actually going to be free to me as opposed to free for some promotional period. Cos in the past, the biggest stumbling block was always the DVR. which FIOS could make to look free, but which in practice always involved some gigantic increase in our bill once some promotional period was over.
The only minor hitch I can see is that they say I cannot go back to my no-longer-extant plan after this upgrade. Which I wouldnt want to IF the new plan IS ACTUALLY only $4 a month more Than I am paying.
