Dual Tuner (S3) How does it handle...

One big problem with the Motorola 64xx/34xx is that you cannot really control what gets cancelled when you try to record something and there is a conflict. It will always give you the opportunity to replace one of the two currently-scheduled recordings -- it won't give you the ability to cancel the "other" recording. If all three recordings are manual recordings, is there a way to determine what gets cancelled to make room for the new recording?

I think this isn't really an issue with a TiVo, but let me check. Here's what I experience (regularly) on my 3412: When the networks change the start time for a program (10:00 to 10:01, for example), the 3412 seems to treat the old and new start times as separate listings, and the earlier listing (of course) no longer appears in the guide, so if you had it set up for recording, you can no longer grab hold of it to change the recording options or to delete it. That's led to situations where I tried to record a third program, and my only option was to cancel the second program. I couldn't even get a handle on the first program (not even from the Scheduled Recordings list), to delete it before I tried to add the third program. Can I assume that this could never happen on a TiVo DT?

It shouldn't be a problem, but let me be sure that I understand your question.

1) You schedule 2 recordings; both start at 10. We are assuming that these were manual and not Season Passes; but I don't necessarily think that matters.

2) One of the 2 recordings changes its time to 10:01. TiVo sees this and adjust its recording schedule accordingly.

3) You now want to add a 3rd recording at 10.

If you were to do this directly, TiVo would say that you had a conflict at 10:01 and ask if you wanted to cancel that one or not. However, what you would do is go into the To-Do list, cancel the first recording, and then schedule the 3rd one with no problem.

I think that's really the key. This stupid bug in iGuide makes it so that once a program for which you have scheduled a recording has a time change, you can no longer change or delete the schedule for the recording -- it is utterly and completely locked in. I couldn't imagine that TiVo's DT software would have a bug like that. Sounds like it doesn't.
