Comcast and cable cards

My Comcast contract is up next week so I called to see what they have to replace it. I have a TIVO and a Comcast DVR for watching and recording shows. The TIVO requires a cable card as every one knows, which they have been suppling for free.. I was told that they are no longer providing the cards and if I want to extend my plan so I can use my TIVO it will cost me an additional $50 a month for my present plan. I love the TIVO over their DVR but I am not paying that much. Looks like I will be dropping their TV and going streaming. For those of you that have already done that which service are you using? I still want to get the local news channels out of Philly. Comcast is pushing for people to get Hulu thru them at a discount. They are also offering a plan that is $30 a month and you get 125 channels, Netflix, Peacock and Apple TV. Haven't met any one with that plan so I don't know how good it is. That plan and HD and a DVR, internet and phone line and all the the other fees comes to $175 a month. I might try that if they let me go month to month and not get locked in for a whole year.

it's possible if you do nothing everything will remain the same or increase slightly ... this happened when my verizon fios contract expired... i just did nothing and the price stayed the same with all services the same... it has been this way for maybe 6+ years or more... it does increase from time to time ~10.00 per month that will last a year or two until the next 10.00 increase... still cheaper than if i were to look for another plan with channels i don't want.... unless your current bill specifically says such and such discount will expire at a certain time it just might not...just a thought...

Basically, at this point your options are:

1 - Do nothing. Your cable card and Tivo will keep working, although for how long, no one knows. You will be at the whims of Comcasts billing department at that point for your monthly bill.

2 - Go with the new plan, lose the cable card, lose Tivo, and pick a streaming device/service of your choice

3 - Cancel cable, get an antenna, and use the Tivo with OTA service. No Cable Card needed. Reception depends on your local geography, although Philly has some pretty decent broadcast towers. This should get you local news and some other channels as well. You could supplement with streaming devices/services if you wanted.

Rather than starting a new thread, I'll just add to this one. I just bought a new Edge since they're on sale & I'm afraid my Bolt may soon die. It's working fine but it's been on since 2017. I'm on Comcast in Denver & just pulled the cable card out of an old S3 HD that I'm not using. I did the Tivo setup, no problems. Then came the dreaded Comcast/Xfinity setup. After searching Xfinity's website, I came on to Cable Card Pairing page. <https://cablecardactivation.xsp.comcast.net/>. I went through the procedure and within 5 minutes the Edge was up & running with no additional problems. I'm only posting this information for Comcast customers that fear setting up something new with a cable card. Yes, I did use one of my cable cards that is registered to my account but if you're able to do that, piece of cake. I wouldn't try to register a new Cable card with Xfinity but re-pairing a current card is easily done.
