Hi, I’ve been having problems with my wireless network adapter on my XL4, it would connect just fine but had problems staying connected. I use my XL4 to record everything then stream to another XL in another room and every time I would start a stream it would work fine for a while then lose connection with the XL4. I could then switch to Netflix/Hulu and watch all day with no issues on the XL so it was obviously the XL4. I switched wireless adapters, rebooted my wifi router, nothing helped so finally I just restarted my XL4 and after the restart, all my recordings are gone. Nothing in recently deleted. It kept all my one passes, settings and to do items but everything recorded is gone.

I restarted again and they are still gone. I didn’t do the clear and delete just the basic reboot.

Any ideas why it deleted everything and if there is any other way to get them back?
I just recently rebuilt the drive with the recovery image from here. I bought this xl4 used and have only had it a few months. This was the first reboot I did with shows recorded on it.

You need to do a Clear and Delete Everything to marry the drive to the TiVo (and if it hangs, you'll need to do a KS57).

No way to get the recordings back unfortunately.

So far it stayed at the clearing and delleting everything screen for 4+ hours.
I powered it off for a few minutes and plugged it back in. Went to the welcome screen then back to the clearing and deleting screen and still there for the last hour.

FWIW, TiVo doesn't (officially) support wireless for streaming between boxes -- except in the case of a Mini VOX/LUX w/ the new TiVo WiFi 5 USB Adapter. Transfers *are* supported.

How to Use Multi-Room Viewing (i.e. transfers)

I’ve never had any networking issues with my tivo, I can stream Hulu/Netflix all day everyday but streaming from one to another has always been difficult. It’s always been wireless and I’m about to switch to moca just for the tivo boxes.

Because the TiVo boxes are streaming MPEG2 video, with bitrates from 4-20 Mbps (and TiVo streaming is very sensitive), while most Internet streaming services support HD streaming at 6 Mbps or less, and can adjust the bitrate/quality depending on network conditions.
