Granted I haven't been involved with any strikes but after having read the writers & network/movie positions, a strike seems inevitable. The writers contract expires on Nov. 1st.

It's definitely a thorny situation, but the studios have been prepping all summer by accelerating film and television production schedules to get more footage in the can. If it does happen, it'll be a while before the average American notices, and they'd hopefully have a deal in place by then.

I have no problem doubling the rate from $0.04/DVD to $0.08/DVD for the writers if the writers would (a) stop writing all reality shows and (b) stop writing at a level the average 12-year-old could do better and (c) hire at least one person to review/correct the script for stupidity and moronicity before production on it begins.

But it should go both ways... if the show is really bad, the writers should have to pay us $0.08/DVD as an environmental pollution fee that can only be waived by distributing the show on DVD-RW media.

I would hope that the networks use the eventual writers/actors/directors strike as an excuse to import programming from the UK, Canada and Australia, to fill our airwaves.

In fact, many people blame the rise of "reality" TV on the last writers' strike. The networks started looking for ways to have shows without writers, and hit upon the reality concept as an option.

Of course viewers are still ultimately to blame for making those early experiments runaway hits...

I heard that BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP excuse me...pesky Urban Legend alarm...anyway, I heard that the writers are considering holding off on their strike until the actors' and directors' contracts expire next June.

(I wouldn't be a bit surprised if the WGA and DGA contract problems is the reason Disney is rushing Miley Cyrus through her Hannah Montana tour so they can start filming the HM movie in January, so those of you with young girls who have stopped talking to you because you couldn't come up with tickets for the one concert night in your area may have some idea who to blame.)

I've heard that the networks may also run shows that originally aired on cable. i did not hear specifics, but it would be interesting to see how many people would tune into "mad men", "Damages", etc if they were on the Big Networks.
