Wish List Vs. Season Pass - Help!

1371 Views 12 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  Revolutionary
Here is my problem. I am trying to find the best solution.

Say I wanted a show like Cops and I wanted every episode of Cops to be recorded.

Say that Cops airs on 3 different stations at various times of the day.

Now I know that I could make a Season Pass and get all airing of Cops for a single station or that I could make a title wish list for Cops and get everything with Cops in the title. The problem with the latter is that I might end up with Animal Cops or something else along those lines. I guess I could also make 3 season passes, one for each channel.

Is there a better solution to my problem?

Thanks.

I don't think TiVo allows multiple season passes for a show. You might be able to narrow down the Wishlist by giving it a category, but with a generic term like Cops you are bound to still get some programs you didn't really want.
Sorry, I had a similar question regarding Season Pass. Didn't want to create a new thread, so I'll post it here. If this isn't allowed, I can create a new thread.

If I wanted to record just the 11pm version of ESPN Sportscenter every night, how can I do that? Currently, I have a Season Pass for ESPN Sportscenter, but it records the 9pm, 11pm, 2am, etc.

My old ReplayTV could easily record a series by Time, particular day, or even multiple days, easily. I could record "24" on only Sunday and Mondays, and there were options for a bunch of other things.

Maybe I don't see it, but it's been awhile since I've used TiVo.

Very easy, setup a repeat manual recording on that channel:
Tivo Central->Find Programs->Record by Time or Channel->Set Up Manual Recording etc.
Seasons Passes are based on show/channel. So you could set-up a few season passes. However you could try surrounding Cops in quotes (ie; "Cops") and see if that works. Quotes are input via the pause button. Not sure it will work but give it a shot.
This seems like a feature they should have. The Tivo knows when upcoming Cops episodes are airing no matter what channel they are on. It does not seem that hard to take it one step further.......

Thanks for the info. So if i set up multiple season passes will there be a folder called Cops (ABC), Cops(CBS), ect... or just one Cops folder?

Sorry for asking stupid questions...kinda new to this...

Thanks..
I meant to say that placing quotes around "Cops" is applicable to setting up a Wishlist (not a Season Pass). Sorry about that.

I just tested this with "Cops" and it didn't work. Oh well, I tried.
Well, hitting "Thumbs Up" three times and enabling TiVo Suggestions works fairly well, actually. You can also set up 3 Season Passes, as others have mentioned. You also might try creating the wishlist by director rather than title.
Setting a SP for each channel gives you a lot of flexibility, because you can change the priority for each channel in the SP manager.

Say your cable system has one channel where the video quality absolutely blows -- you could put that SP way down on your priority list in the SP manager, and put the other two closer to the top of the list.

The manual recording is currently the best option. Mine is set 7 days a week from 5am-630am. It usually picks up a full show. Live early morning Soccer has thrown this off recently so I have switched back to recording a 3-hour block between 12am and 3am. ESPN News channel should really do a "SportsCenter Final" that us Season Passer's can get just one recording of that wouldn't be thrown off schedule due to all the live games. I have suggested this to the network.
Just create a season pass for each channel that the show airs on, but don't set them to "all with duplicates." This way Tivo will not record the same episode from two different channels.
