Wireless adapter can work without TIVO service?

I have just bought TIVO Series2 DT DVR and TIVO wireless adapter. And I can download the recorded TV programm from TIVO DVR to my laptop computer. Of course, I applied TIVO 1month service and matched media access key.

I wonder if I did not pay for the TIVO service, Can I still transfer or send the recorded TV programm from my TIVO DVR to my computer? Is TIVO service essential for this function?

Tivo Service is required for any function of the S2.
