I currently have an HR10-250 (and a couple 704's) and am using three separate round dishes to get 101, 110, and 119. All are connected to a 3x8 powered multiswitch and an OTA antenna in the attic.

The location that receives 101 and 110 is open to the east so it will get 72.5 on up to 110. But...there's no way to get 119 from there and there's no place on the property to get all five sats.

So...when I'm finally forced to give in and trade the HR10 for the HR20 will D* install the 5 LNB dish if it won't receive from 119? If all the new HD channels are on 99 and 103 and there's nothing on 119 but international and locals (not mine) will they tell me no? Will the HR20 setup accept it?

P.S. Yes, there may be some kludgy way to mix in 119 with a separate dish but I doubt the installer will do it, and it's not worth the hassle if there's nothing on it, anyway.

Doubtful. The installer generally wants a clear line-of-sight to all 5 satellites.

I was in the same boat, however. I was using 3 18" dishes and upgraded last year to using two 5-LNB dishes - one sited to receive 99/101/103-deg W and the other sited to receive 110/119-deg W. Read more about my setup here .....

The local Ironwood installers knew how to do this, but it is only possible with the original 5-LNB dishes that have independent LNB assemblies for the 99/101/103 and 110/119 satellites. The newer SlimLine dishes won't work.

Once the new D10 satellite goes live in September, it might not matter anymore. It's likely that the current HD channels beamed from 110 and 119 will at least be mirrored on the new satellite.

So true about he LOS...i had to do a self install because of it. But i doubt DTV gives the same kind of credit I got before.

so after the new bird is running, will 119 be "unused" and we can use that as an argument for them to install without LOS to it?

I had this problem a couple of years ago and was able to get them to install the three lnb dish without the 119, but I had to fight the installer about the issue. I had to call Directv while the installer was here and make them aware that I wanted the install even without the 119. I think they just made a note on our account.

they installed mine without 119 - no waiver or anything. Only ESPN2 HD and HD Net are effected - anyone know if those will be mirrored to the new Sat???

hopefully gonna hook up my Tivo on the D11 box tonight with the paterson tech cable (assuming it came in the mail today)

Don't know yet, but expect that they will be mirrored on the new Ka-band MPEG4 satellite at 103-deg due to go live in a week or two. Of course, you can't receive those channels on your Tivo, only the HR20 HD DVR or H20 HD Receiver.

right I understand that - I have no DVR on my HDTV - I'm good with one Tivo for now haha.

I got the D-11 500 to work with a SA Series 2 Tivo - using the peterson tech usb translator - I posted the fix on another thread

so 119 carries locals mainly for some and just a few HD channels? guess I got lucky - hopefully they mirror them to the new sat - I should get that one fine

aww no fair! Maybe they didnt like my difficult install of wiring under the house.
I heard if you ***** to directv - and hire a local mom and pop to install the dish as you wanted - then sometimes directv will reiumburse you via a credit to your account - worth a shot I guess.
