Will Comcast take cable box?

Long story short, for a new HDTV I've decided to purchase and use a Tivo Premiere and, with a split cable and plugged into another input, keep the cable box i use currently so I can still access Xfinity On-Demand. This may be a stupid question, but when the Comcast technician comes to install the Mcard for the Tivo, are they going to insist that I return the cable box that is currently connected? If they do that I can't access On Demand, something I use rather frequently.

Most likely they will charge you an additional digital outlet fee, ~$8.00 in my case, if you keep their cable box, or take the cable box, whichever you prefer.
But you should be getting a customer-owned equipment discount for the TiVo, so that ends up reducing the impact of the additional outlet fee.

Is your cable box HD capable?
Has anyone actually gotten the customer-owned equipment discount? I brought my comcast DVR in yesterday to return it and first they had no clue about the discount. Now they say that I "have" to keep the dvr to get the bundle but they are attempting to add the discount. I hope to get the $2.50 and to remove one of the additional digital outlet fees of $6.00. I am on my way there after work to see where it stands.
I get $2.95 rebate per TiVo. Since they charge me $1.50 for the second TiVo the results are very favorable.
No, the current cable box is just SD, which is fine since I'll only be using it for VOD. When I ordered the Mcard installation through Comcast, they asked if I'd be returning the cable box. I said "no" and they didn't mention anything, in fact the next thing they told me was how the first two cablecards are free of charge. I was trying to keep the extra cable box (so I can split the cable and connect it to another input for VOD) on the down-low so the install technician doesn't notice it. Am I paranoid?

It shouldn't be a problem (other than the routine Comcast charges), if the tech wants to take the box, tell him that you want to use it for OnDemand programming -- as that is a revenue source they would be foolish to take it.
