Howdy folks. Just realized we've had our Roamio OTA for five years now! I recall way back in the day, a failed hard drive would brick the first get TiVos. Is this the case for the Roamio as well? If so, I want to get it cloned asap. At least for the moment, recordings are not that much of a concern.

Sorry if this was answered elsewhere. Looked at quite a few posts, and some had me thinking they no longer rely on the hard drive to boot?

The Roamio won’t “brick” because of a bad drive. It might stop working, but all you need to do (assuming you are happy with 3 TB or less of storage) is put a new drive in it and it will be back up and running. You will lose all your recordings and need to set up the box from scratch, but if that doesn’t matter it’s the simplest way to get things working again.

Awesome. Thanks for the quick reply! Just what I had hoped it would be.
And to give you a little confidence, I just did this today. I had planned to upgrade, and bought a 3T drive a few months ago. Got most of the stuff I wanted to keep downloaded via kmttg and made a copy of my todo-list with kmttg as well. Pulled the old 500G drive out today and put in the 3T drive. It formatted, then went through the guided setup. After that finished up, I loaded my saved todo-list and copied them back to the Roamio. Worked like a charm.

Thanks for the info. The current capacity is plenty for my wife and I. The main concern was that we just made a deal on a lifetime subscription for our Roamio. Will probably back up the current drive just to be sure at some point.
