Why's my series 2 doing this?

Here's a photo.

Interestingly, it comes and goes. Right now, it's gone. But it'll probably come back. It has three times now.

What could be going on?

ETA: I guess I should explain-it's black and white, and terribly oversaturated looking.

Are you using an S-Video cable?
Is it the Tivo, the cable, or the TV? You need to validate where it is happening first.
I think it's the TiVo. My husband messed with a while, and it seems to be that, although it could possibly be the cable box (but I think he checked that, too. I'll have to check.)

My setup is weird-I have the TiVo setup with the cable box, and going through Video 1. I have a cable feed coming directly out of the wall going into the TV for live viewing.

The TV is old and has issues. But given the live/out of wall feed is fine and in color, I don't think it's that.

For the record, it's back, too. It was fixed (all by itself) for about a day.

Does the television have a digital tuner, or just an analog one?

Does the cable box feed the TiVo, in that the actual channel changing is done on the cable box?

What connects the cable box to the TiVo?

Is Video 1 an input of the television other than the television's tuner?

If so, is the video part of that connection between the TiVo and the television an S-Video cable, or a composite (yellow plug) cable?

And which model of S2?

If the cable comes directly out of the wall and runs straight to the tuner input of the television, where does the cable come from that feeds the cable box which is connected to the TiVo?

Or are you feeding the TiVo into the cable box, and the cable box into Video 1?

(I though I clicked Submit on this post before nodding off last night)

This is weird.

Could this be at all related to temperature? It seems to come back on when it's warm, and then when it gets chilly, it goes white again.

?

Is it supposed to be in color and it's turning to B&W?

It very well could be related to temperature, but to clarify, do you have the problem when it gets cold or warm?
If you notice the change when the house temp. changes, then it's probably the thermal problem explained in the first link Windracer posted above http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=371500. See also http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=288025, especially post #5.

I had the problem several years ago with a S2. No problem in the summer, but more and more often in the winter. I tried the hairdryer test described in the first link above and the color came back. Eventually, however, it became that crazy white and black permanently. I still use the TiVo as a 3rd tuner in another room--just to record and transfer (which are both in color) since it's basically unwatchable and I don't have the capability to fix it.
Yeah, that's exactly it! It goes when it gets cooler, then when it warms up, it comes back. I'll have to try the hair dryer trick next time. I'll check in and let you know.

ETA: Of course, at this point, that might be never. This winter has been way too warm, in my opinion.
