Why is Tivo recording the CBS evening News?

Both my S3 and TivoHD recorded the CBS Evening new with Katie Couric. Just like I had a season pass for it and I don't. It's not a suggested recording either. On one Tivo it recorded two days worth and created a folder just like a season pass. I checked season passes, nope it's not there.

WTH, does Tivo think I need to be more informed?

I gave these recording a big Thumbs down x3 and will delete and see if these record again.

OK.... History shows ... Downloaded on 6/15/11.... Ok, it must be a tivo cast.

Who do I contact to get these removed? I recall some post said you cannot just cancel the tivocast, you have to contact a specific Tivo rep to ask to have it removed.

Video On Demand -> Free VOD and Web Videos -> news & politics -> CBS Evening News With Katie Couric -> Cancel season pass?
The CBS Evening News no longer has Katie Couric. It has Scott Pelley. If a TiVo is still recording broadcasts with Katie, they must be repeats. LOL

Yeah, thanks for the UI reminder lesson, but I think I know where the setting is located.

My point was even if a user cancels a Tivocast season pass, Tivo continues to record the program.
Tivocast would not show up in season pass manager or ToDo list. So, you have to cancel from the VOD menu.

Yes, yes... I understand the menu system on the Tivo. Did you happen to notice my comment in my OP?

Maybe your Tivo felt sorry for CBS because no one watches anymore?
Years ago an old "Family Circus" comic strip had the little girl Dolly say something like: "The Petersons have a machine that watches television for them!"
Strange. My S2DT has been recording things I have never heard of and they are in the now playing list too, as if they were season passes. I suppose it could be VOD. How do I find out what VOD things I have SP's to? AFAIK, I've never used VOD so I'm not sure how I could have set up a season pass. I've deleted 'em all already, but what should I check for when I get the next one?

However, I am pretty sure that one of them was the CBS evening news, like the OP.
Are you sure you don't have auto-recording wishlists? I have seen autorecording wishlists catch 'weird' shows fairly often (in fact, I wish I could EASILY tell various wishlists to NEVER record this specific show again -- but that's fairly far down the list of other things I know will never be fixed/improved)... and I believe some of the things that wishlists can key off of are not normally visible, and/or are only in the extended info you get when you hit the Info button when in a show.
Do you watch the CBS Evening News often? I've noticed that mine tends to decide to record things I watch fairly often, even if I don't happen to touch the thumb buttons. I think it's working off of common keywords in the program descriptions, so it might have decided to record the news for you because you watch a lot of current affairs programming.
MarcC, if you ever did a manual one-time recording of the CBS Evening News, I believe Tivo will give it an "implied" thumbs up as opposed to an "explicit" thumbs up. That is, it automatically gives it a thumbs up for you (since you recorded it) and you don't have to manually give it a thumbs up.

Therefore, since it now has a thumbs up (which you didn't give it), it may show up as a suggestion.

But suggestions and wishlist recordings are easy to identify. Suggestions have the Tivo icon and autorecording wishlists have a blue star icon, as opposed to the blank/gold ball/green ball icons.

What do the icons look like next to the mysterious recordings?
But for me (not sure of the OP), these things ARE NOT showing up as suggestions. They are in the Now Playing list as regular recordings. I checked, and I don't have ANY ARWL on that Tivo.
a68oliver,

Yep, I had forgotten it did that, they say memory is the first thing to go... :) I usually put them back to neutral unless it's something I really like. As Lazarus Long said, "When in doubt, vote against.

I suppose my actual point(cleverly disguised under a semi-obscure SF quote) was that if you watch a specific program often enough, the software seems to decide that maybe you want it to hang onto some episodes for you, these don't show up as suggestions. I tend to read while I have it set to a music channel (classic country in my case, I'm an old guy from Texas /shrug). I'll bring up the Now Playing screen sometimes, and there, NOT in anything but it's own entry, is a couple of hours of music recordings.

My experience seemed to parallel rmassey's initial question, and my reply was aimed at him, I'm sorry I was kind of unclear in my first post. Personally, I don't know if this a bug or a feature, but judging by the lack of any kind of special icon or documentation, i'm going to go with bugged feature. :\

No, I don't. I had setup a VOD Tivocast at one time and forgot about it. I removed the SP and gave it a thumbs down. I think that has taken care of it.

Huh? No, that can't be true... that's rather ridiculous.
