Lots of changes, all at the same time. Makes diagnosing problems FUN! I recently: moved to a new town, upgraded my hard drive, and started using the second tuner for the first time.
Now some of my channels are coming in highly pixelated. I've seen the term "stuttering" and while I'm not sure exactly what it portends, it would seem to apply here.
At first it seemed like it was always happening on the same channels (HGTV and Disney, specifically) but now I'm starting to think that's not the case.
When I go to the signal meter several of the transponders on the second satellite jump between showing 90ish and 0. (Additionally 101/26 shows nothing on either satellite and 101/28 is in the 30s.)
Initially I thought bad LNB or a bad cable. The dish and LNBs are all new, as is the wiring, since I just moved to a new house and used the Mover's Connection to have a new dish installed.
I finally wizened up (after calling the installer back out
) and tried swapping the satellite inputs. With this I get exactly the same problem. It's still "satellite 2" that's the problem.
This makes me think it's a problem with my second tuner. This would suck, since it's an HDVR2, long out of warranty. I've never tried using the second tuner before since I wasn't able to run a second cable at the old house.
Thoughts? I'd like input on both my diagnosis and, if I'm right, what to do about it. (And of course if I'm not, what else I should be looking at.)
(I also have an old RCA receiver I can use for troubleshooting purposes. It doesn't have an access card, but I should be able to test signal strength with it, if there's anything you think it would be helpful to check. I got it out to confirm my results, but once I tried switching cables it seemed clear it was a problem with my box.)
Thanks!
