Why do we need a reboot of "The 4400"... on The CW?
We don't.

I really liked this show. Watched it from Day One. The first couple seasons were very good--well-written, good cast. Third season not as sharp, and the fourth was all over the place. Cancellation was not unexpected. Similar in that aspect to Heroes. It's like they have a really good idea for a show, but no idea where to go from there.

It ran on USA Network 2004-2007, at the very beginning of the "Blue Sky" era.

One thing I noticed. The original USA series was called THE 4400, and this is just called 4400. I assume it's the same, but are we sure? The 4400 was maybe the first series I watched on a "basic cable" channel rather than on broadcast TV, as the other cable series all seemed cheap and cheesy to me. Then I got hooked on other USA series, and really back then they were the cream of the cable crop for light entertainment. Shame they became the "Law and Order" channel and pretty much little else (I know that's probably my perception, but everytime I look they are playing L&O.)

Anyway, I'll probably watch at least at the beginning. I remember the old series was really good until they brought that cult leader front and center. But I'll definitely have to refresh my memory.

It's been years since I watched anything on the CW. Maybe since Smallville. But I'll give this a shot since I remember really liking the original show, at least for the first few seasons.

However, I'm afraid this might just be a vehicle for typical CW teen angst and pretty faces rather than a quality, well-written show.

I don't hold out hope that this will be as good as the USA version. As you say most of their shows are either DC based comic book shows that are watered down for TV, or teen angst (or in the case of a lot of the ones I've seen bits and pieces of...my son is an avid watcher....both). But I'll give it a shot and hope for the best.

Since this is a reboot, I suppose going back and watching some of the original won't matter. I don't recall how it ended, but it sounds like that won't matter to watch this.

I haven't see the original. It looks fascinating.

And since I've never had cable ("cable" being defined as more channels than I could pick up with an antenna on an analog receiver plus the news channel and WGN) at home, there are a lot of series I've never seen.

I know no one is going to believe this but I watch numerous CW shows. Liking the music on those shows ... that's another matter entirely.

I'm intrigued. But I've cut regular cable and I have no idea where it would be streaming up in Canada. I'm planning on swapping Netflix for CraveTV at some point (for just a few months to catch up on things); maybe it will be there.

Why do we need a reboot of any TV show? We get them because the studios run out of fresh ideas so they try to squeeze more out of a show that had been successful in the past hoping that it will attract a new audience. There have probably been a few reboots that have worked out, but most of the ones I've seen have failed miserably. I'll probably check out the 4400 to see if it's worth watching, but I'm not sure what they can do different than the original. People disappeared and then came back and have to reintegrate into society decades later. It's basically like 4400 people went into a coma and woke up to find a different world around them. I'll reserve judgement until I've seen the show.
