Where's the next Ally McBeal?

I 've always loved the absurdity of David E Kelley's Dramedies, like Northern Exposure, Picket Fences, and Ally McBeal. I was wondering if there are any currently airing shows that fall into the same genre. Pushing Daisies is a good candidtate, but I think it's fall's more into the more bazaar Hitchhiker's Guide genre.

Anyone have any other recomendations?

Why do you consider Northern Exposure to be absurd?

You prefer the term quirky?
I liked Northern Exposure and yes it was very absurd - Anthony Edwards as the litigious bubble boy lawyer, a crazy chef, a dorky artist flinging things into the woods, a very strange send off of the number3s guy.....

BUt why would you want another Ally McBeal??
Its not typical David Kelly, but Side order of life has a strong Ali Mcbeal feel to it, at least to me. In one episode, she thought a pig was sending her text messages. Stuff like that.
Boston Legal

There's nothing inherently inconceivable about any of that, though. OK, maybe some of the native American mythos got a bit strange...

Heck, if there was a real town in Alaska like the one in the show with some of those characters in it, I'd probably move there tomorrow. :)

It was nothing like Boston Legal has become, for which "absurd" would be a greater compliment than it deserves.
Funny, when I read the title the first thing that crossed my mind was 'Courtney from Survivor', then when I read your post I realized you weren't talking about 'the most emaciated looking female on primetime TV'. :)
Q: Where's the next Ally McBeal?
A: Oh I hope not.
The closest I can come up with is ugly betty, and it's not very close at all.

Maybe that's cause DEK is the primary writer and Exec producer of BL......

well, yeah.. I thought that was what the OP was looking for. The current whacky DEK show.
I need to catch up on Boston Legal. That is all.

Which makes it even more bizarre to me that the original poster had no idea about this show.
Ally McBeal started out as being an emotionally-driven, mildly substantive dramedy, and ended an over the top farce.

Boston Legal is proudly over the top.

As did Boston Public.

LOVE David E. Kelley shows in years 1 or 2.
HATE David E. Kelley shows in years 3 through cancellation.
Men in Trees is very Northern Exposure like.

Although, maybe not quite as quirky but it's been a long time since I've seen that show.
