I've noticed several sellers on eBay that are repeatedly selling multiple TiVo boxes with Lifetime service. Could these folks have stocked up on LT Gift Cards? Or is there a secret loophole that allows them to keep generating Lifetime subscriptions?

Meny may be just upgrading to a Series 3 or another TiVo, it would not pay to put Lifetime on a TiVo 540 to sell even if you could because you can't make any money after paying $299 to TiVo, then the E-Bay and PayPal fees, some people put Lifetime on the Series 3 when TiVo had the offer to do so, they may have paid $600 for the TiVo and Xfer lifetime Service (with a $299 value) from another TiVo + $199 to keep a year service on the other TiVo so the out of pocket cost was $800 and they can get $1200 on E-Bay so that some profit.

To answer the question posed by the OP - I'm convinced some found a loophole with lifetime - there are a couple of eBay users that have WAY more lifetime S2DTs and S3 lifetime's than would be reasonable.

lessd - I have no idea what you are trying to say.

Please remember that there are still many grandfathered lifetime units sitting around. Sellers do not always use eBay so it would be difficult to guage how many of these change hands on a regular basis. Its also possible somebody got an inside tip that lifetime subs were going to be discontinued early enough to invest a bundle in lifetime certificates. Another thing I have found is that some of the routine series ones and twos being sold on eBay for peanuts actually come with unadvertised subs which makes them prime candidates for transfers when occasionally offered.

That's what I am thinking. There is a seller now with four 80-hour S2's with Lifetime. That person has sold nearly 20+ of the same thing in the past four months! The feed back for the sold ones is all positive, so I doubt they are fake.

I myself bought an upgraded DT (560 hrs!!) from a different seller that also sells several Lifetime boxes a month.

It's possible these people bought up a ton of Lifetime Subscription cards/gift certificates before they ended, and they thought they'd get more for them applying them to boxes rather than just selling the cards themselves.
