What's needed to prep an S3 w/LSC for a new owner?

Other than wiping the hard drive, is there anything I should do account-wise to prep an S3 w/lifetime service contract for a new owner?

I just sold 2 S3's with lifetime sub, so I know the drill.

The best and easiest way to do it is to phone TiVo, tell them you're selling a unit with lifetime sub and they'll give you a reference number which you can then give to the new owner once it's sold.

He/she phones TiVo and quotes that reference number which serves as your permission/confirmation and allows them to move the unit to the new owner's account.

The other way is to give the new owner your name, address, and phone number and they can quote that to TiVo, but my preference is the reference number.

Note that after the transfer you'll still see the unit listed under your account, it remains there as a static reference to the original owner, you can't modify it's name or preferences any longer (but the new owner can under his account.)

Yep, I don't like that part. I wish that they could have a preference to show only active boxes on your account.

I just sold a Tivo HD with lifetime on ebay and did neither of the above. The Tivo is no longer under my account as a static reference.

You do not wipe the hard drive.

He probably just meant "Clear & delete everything".
I have never had to call Tivo to sell a lifetime Tivo. I just have the new owner set it up for their new location and Tivo can see that and they will move it over to the new owner.
I don't do the 'clear and delete'. I leave the recordings on the Tivo so they have something to watch till they get some recordings of their own.

Yes. This is true. I purchased 2 Lifetime S3 units at different times from different people with the owners having never contacted TiVo, and the CSR found the units in the system and I just said I just bought them and want them on my account, and they both said "no problem."

One seller did contact TiVo to "release" the unit, but I was kind of surprised that TiVo transferred the LTSC and boxes to my account just on my request. But it did make it EASY. No codes, no nothing.
