I checked the Edge forum and there are several current threads but not really much going on there. The current threads seem to be some pretty major problems and not much praise. I haven't seen much effort by TiVo to sell them. No specials money off deals? I've been waiting to see if an OTA Edge comes out. Did this thing just flop and will disappear soon? It just seems strange.

Based on the fact that there has been no sale or upgrade deals, I don't think there were many Edges manufactured. Tivo seems content with them gathering dust in warehouses which sort of points to low inventory levels. The modest activity in the Edge forum also backs up my theory i.e. there aren't that many owners out there.

Perhaps middle of the summer, one of those $99 lifetime transfer deals? Assuming they have cleared out most of the Bolts. A lifetime transfer to an OTA Edge would not be a very good deal since lifetime costs way less on the OTA version. I doubt I would even do it on a cable Edge, $400 for the Edge, $99 for the transfer plus the value of whatever Tivo you would be transferring from. With tax $500+ cash plus whatever box would be deactivated. Probably another $75 to $200+. For a cable card dependent box with a 2.5" drive.

Could be because the Edge has not been out for long, and I doubt that many people bought them to boot, very expensive for boxes bordering on obsolete when released.
True, it almost seems like not many even have them. Has TiVo commented on the numbers sold? Just glancing the Edge Forum looks like they've been spending their resources on this new streaming dongle and not doing a lot of patching on the Edge.

I love the logic in this forum.

"TiVo isn't offering deep discounts on the Edge... it must be a flop."

"TiVo is running lots of Facebook ads for the Bolt... there must be lots of Edge's sitting in a warehouse."
Or it is because you cant downgrade to TE3 even though 99% of Tivo users probably have no clue what that means

Maybe the Edge is not selling as you can't downgrade them to TE3?
"Sidegrade" ;) For Tivo die hards another issue, upgrading the drive (to a 3.5 external). I watched a Weaknees video showing how to upgrade to one of their external drives. The stock Edge connection to the drive is a one piece plug in port, data and power in one connection not separate. So can't just connect to a Sata data connection on the MB. Need a custom cable, Weaknees built their own.

Will be interesting to see how the SMR drive holds up over time. Supposedly AV rated SMR. However how well it holds up will not be known for a few years, at least IMO. History of Bolt 2.5" stock drives not good (at least the 2TB and up drives), and they were not SMR.

I also seen in another thread... TiVo stopped offering extended warranties. Guess the cost of warranty replacements got too high. The Edge is expensive and one would hope it would last longer than most Bolts do today.

There is an OTA Edge...

Speaking for myself, I think it works great. Yes I've had a couple of random reboots, but overall its amazing. So much faster than my Roamio. I had skipped the BOLT line due to all the issues I've seen and had been waiting for the EDGE.
+1 ....

And speaking for myself as well, I personally love the OTA Edge, and it's working great for me so far. ....

Much faster and snappier than my two old Roamio OTAs and even faster than my Bolt (a CATV/OTA version, not the OTA only one).

And admittedly I really don't have any complaints about the Bolt's performance either, which is also superior to the Roamios. Other than that it still only has a 500 GB stock HDD in it.

I'm just bidding my time for now waiting for the cheapest buyout offer from TiVo for the Bolt (11 months remaining of a 2 year contract), as I naturally don't want to keep paying two $20+ monthly fees for both the Bolt and Edge. ....
