One of the largest problems with Cable companies and television studios wrt their attitudes towards DVR (TiVo being chief among them) is IMO a lack of vision and understanding.
they just don't get it.
They *only* reason I am still a cable subscriber is my HD TiVo. If 50 new HD channels come out and I can't get them on If I didn't already have a TiVo, I would have switched already. But cable doesn't see it that way - they see my TiVO as a competitor to their own DVR! Foolish foolish foolish.
Advertisers are very skittish right now about advertising on television due to the impact that DVR is having. What they don't understand is that 1) DVR may offer an even better way of getting targetted ads to eyeballs and 2) the influence of DVR on what people watch and how they view ads is not entirely known yet - not enough study has been done.
The only way DVR use is going to be re-democratized if business is made to understand that DVR could potentially make them more money than if they try to fight against it. The best way IMO to do this is through an advocacy group!
Could someone get on that please?
