What more can the Premier do over the TiVo hd?

Much faster MRV/TTG transfers, upcoming (someday) Hulu Plus app, upcoming (someday) VOD with Cox and Comcast, VOD with RCN, iPad app.

That's pretty much it right now. Oh, and you'll only need 1 cablecard from your provider, not 2 as in the S3.

Premier also has the ability to handle flash video where the TiVo HD does not.
The TiVo HD does support a multi-stream cable card where original the S3 does not.

The premier is less hackable for the moment so I'm actually sticking with my TiVo HDs.

Maybe I'll grab another S3 - I can probably get one these days for $50 and $100 for a 2tb Drive on ebay....

Premiere handles 1080p video. It also does not have several of the format playback bugs for 720p video that the Series 3s do. Premiere supports much higher bitrate media files as well. If you do any integration of home media onto the Tivo, the Premiere is a worthwhile improvement over the Series 3. For basic DVR functions, not so much.

The Premiere, Premiere XL, TiVo HD, & TiVo HD XL all are easy for the owner to upgrade their internal HD drives to 2TB. Not so much for the Original Series 3 - which I believe at this point requires you to buy a pre-imaged drive to use a 2TB drive.

The Premiere is the current model and more likely to receive future bug fixes and improvements.

I have an Original Series 3, a Tivo HD, and a Premiere. While I would not replace my working Series 3 or TiVo HD with a Premiere if either failed completely I would likely replace it with a Premiere not a used Series 3 or TiVo HD, but then I can buy a new Premiere with lifetime for $469, which it sounds like you should also be able to do through the current upgrade offers.

Has anyone actually been able to play 1080p content on their Premiere? and if so, from what source did it originate?

I believe people on this forum have indicated they are ripping blu-ray disks and pushing them to their Premieres for viewing. I have not done this but it is one way you would have access to 1080p content.

I've watched movies from Amazon VOD that was in 1080p.
