What is fair price for 1 month DirecTiVoHD?

12/16/2005 I went HD. 1/1/2006 tree falls on house. Do quick move 4 doors down as leaving country in 5 days for 10 days. Come home, DirecTV installer shows up, no HD signal at all, 4 doors too much closer to the grove of trees down the block.

DirecTV allowed me to cancel and back out of my contract for no fee. But i have a brand new DirecTivoHD (and an older DirecTivo) that are useless to me now. I paid $399 for the HD one.

Any idea what is a fair price?

Thanks!

P.S. Here are pics of the old place, just to show I'm not dumping this for other reasons :) It worked great for a month!

$399 isn't that bad of a price, but in the $250 range will probably attrack the most buyers

Can the dish be mounted higher in the new place?

According to the installer, no. As a rental, it needs to be on a pole. And the trees would still be there. It needs to be mounted 4 doors down, where my old dish still is heh.
Well it looks as tho since I have been a Comcast cable internet customer for 5 years (and switching to FIOS next week hehe) they will "buyback" my tivo, giving me $30 off a month for 16 months, so essentially $480 for a 2 year committment. I'm ok with that. Verizon TV is nowhere ready here and if they are and it rocks, I'll just buyout my contract.

Seems painless way to switch, no shipping, no paypal and I needed to go to cable anywho.

Now to check into those new HD TiVos just announced :)
Does the rental have an upper deck ? Maybe you could try mounting the dish on the upper deck railing.

Ask the landlord what's the problem with mounting the dish on the roof or the side of the house.

Why do you feel you need to go to cable anywho ?
Do you feel you need to pay more for less channels per month ?
They have a no-install policy, and I asked the installer if that would help and he said "no, you need to be in the front yard to get around these trees"

Hmmmm.... Why not put the pole in the front yard ?

He could not get any HD signal at all, only 76% on the normal sat.

And it would have been an ugly eye sore. I was with them 11 years, but oh well :)

Many people who have taken this deal have reported that the installer could care less about taking the receiver, so you still might be able to sell it if you want.

Yeah, they already said they would take the old one, if any. Which is fine. I was not using it anyway. :)
