I was trying to change the time that a show was going to be deleted and a message came up that said other shows were going to be deleted earlier then expected. That message I have seen but then at the right of one of the shows listed to be deleted early there was this message[first 20 shown]I have never seen that what does it mean?

It means that the expiration dates for more than 20 programs will have to be changed, but only the first 20 are shown on that screen. In other words, there are additional programs, not listed, that will have their expiration dates changed.

So does this mean that my Tivo is messing up ?What does drive upgrade mean? How do you get one?One more probably stupid question what does KUID mean?
No your TiVo is working as expected, you are running out of available recording space. The TiVo looks ahead and thinks I need this amount of space if there is not enough free space on the hard drive it frees up space removing deleted recordings, if that does not free enough the next step is to remove the oldest TiVo suggestions, next would be to delete requested programs that have expired. This is where your message came in there are not enough expired programs that can be deleted so now it will have to delete some un-expired recordings.

You must be recording a really large program because there are more then 20 recordings needing to be deleted or really small recordings.

If you browse the TiVo Upgrade Center some users have replaced the hard drive in the TiVo with a larger one to get more recording space. This is not supported by TiVo and will void all warranties It evolves opening the case to replace the drive and could result with a DEAD TIVO if done improperly.

Yes, you are scheduling too many programs and your TiVo is worried that it may have to delete some stuff earlier than planned to make space for what you've asked it to record.

There are two basic reasons people get this message: They just need a bigger TiVo, or they've set a whole bunch of stuff as KUID.

The reason KUID is relevant is that when your TiVo calculates space, it assumes you will NEVER delete KUID recordings. So if you have a lot of shows set to record KUID, it looks at your ToDo list and sees that it may run out of space since those recordings will be around forever. If you DO actually delete some things and free up some room, it may not actually delete anything earlier than planned, but it is warning you of the possibility.

If you have saved stuff on there, make more space my deleting it or moving it somewhere else or changing it to delete as space needed. If you have a lot of stuff set to record as KUID, change them to until space needed. It will make your TiVo a lot more usable. If you just are scheduling a ton of recordings, then yes, consider making your TiVo bigger or adding a second one. You can upgrade yourself if you're computer-savvy, ot you can just buy a big drive from someplace like weaknees.

Also keep in mind that save "until space needed" does NOT mean it will be deleted right away, or even anytime soon. I have recordings on my TiVo that are more than a year old and have just been hanging out. It just depends on how much other stuff is scheduled. But if you record everything as KUID, you really cripple your TiVo b/c its space calculations assume those recordings will stick around forever.

TiVo really works much better if you do not use KUID. The TiVo will delete TiVo Suggestions before any requested recording. Hint: Turn on TiVo Suggestions and use the number of suggestions recorded as a indicator of how full the drive is. or just use the deleted recordings folder for your indicator
