I've posted about my HDMI port that's dead. I'd like to try and fix it to have a back up DVR. HDMI not working. Could be the port or could be the IC chip that the port is connected to. I spoke with Weaknees and they said I was better off just replacing with the Tivo replacement option. They said they couldn't repair it.

I'd like to repair the pcb board if possible. I haven't had great luck finding anyone out there that wants to or is capable of repairing.

Does anyone know of a circuit board diagnostic and repair service that is capable and willing?

I've seen services advertised on ebay to fix the HDMI port on a PS4. Maybe they could fix a Tivo. You'd have to pay for shipping both ways and probably have to waive liability if they brick the Tivo. Not sure it's worth the risk since you have component output anyway.

Is it Premiere or newer? Maybe just get a Mini and use the original Tivo as a headless device. Then again you might need to enable something on the original Tivo to get Multiroom working in the first place. Been a while since I added a device. Can't recall.

The Tivo is a Roamio Plus. It's actually my back up Tivo now as I have another Plus as my main DVR. It's not imperative that I need to use it. Just a quest that I'm on. I've become very curious if the problem was the chip or the port and would like to have it diagnosed and repaired if possible. Not worried about the cost. My main OLED TV in living room only has HDMI inputs which is another reason that I'd like the port repaired (in case I need it). As I have found out with Tivos there are occasions when the Tivo and/or the tuning adapter need to be rebooted and don't like traveling to basement to do so (basement TV only one in house with component input). Anyway, if no one knows of any service in the USA able to diagnose and repair I'll post if I find someone because I'm sure I'm not the only one who can use a repair service.

I have a xl4 with same problem.
I got as far as finding the hdmi "port"(?) chip.
But have gone no farther.

I admire the "quest" as that's how it started for me.
Search surface mount chip on youtube to get an idea of what it takes to swap this type of chip... that's where I stalled on the project.
And bought a RGB to VGA converter so I can use the office computer monitor when needed.

A RGB to hdmi converter is the easiest "work around", probably cheapest if you can't do it yourself.

The Tivo is a Roamio Plus. It's actually my back up Tivo now as I have another Plus as my main DVR. It's not imperative that I need to use it. Just a quest that I'm on. I've become very curious if the problem was the chip or the port and would like to have it diagnosed and repaired if possible. Not worried about the cost. Maybe a TV repair shop could swap out a HDMI port. Not really sure but maybe worth a call. We still have one around here. I am lucky I have a friend here at work who works on electronics (both here at work and at home) so I could probably buy the parts and have him do it. Do you know any Ham Radio people? Some of the old school guys can probably do some soldering like this.

You don't need a working HDMI output for it to be a backup. Hook it up by another lower resolution output for program management, but when you watch it's programs stream it through another TiVo with working HDMI output.

I can diagnose what's wrong with it for $400 + shipping both ways. That does not include the actual repair or its parts. If the Broadcom chip died I'll charge you an additional $500 and there's a 50/50 chance I ruin the entire board. If by luck a surface mounted part is broken then you're probably looking at $150 additional for repair.

Actually, I have the necessary equipment and I'm a EE. But I have no idea how the Tivo circuit board works from an electrical point of view. And no schematics. And it's most likely multi-layered. So at $60/hr, that's $480/day just in labor just to figure it out.

And it'll take me some time plus parts to fix it. Since there's no volume discount because I'm not ordering a reel of whatever is broken, part cost could vary wildly. Plus I have to test it at the end and make sure it works.

Modern electronics aren't supposed to be repaired unless it's a touchscreen or LCD or something that's a quick disconnect and reconnect. It's cheaper to throw out the circuit board than to repair it unless it's obsolete or the product costs $5000 or more.

I do not disagree with your assessment. But at $480 for diag he could buy a new one all in.

After an exhaustive quest across the USA, I have not been able to find a soul that works on Tivo pcb's as far as micro soldering, etc.
Might be a nice niche if someone can do the work at an affordable price, but like Bobcamp1 referenced above, it's an expensive endeavor to diagnose and have work done. Probably better off just finding another unit with lifetime.
