I was looking around for a water resistant remote control for my Mini Vox. We have a pool and I hung a TV in the pool area and are using a Mini w/WiFi adapter for service, eliminating the need for running coax or Ethernet. Couldn’t work better. What I’m looking for is a solution better then the current ziplock bag it’s in to keep pool water out of it.

While I’ve found water resistant programmable remotes, the Mini is behind the TV so I need RF for it to work.

I did a google search and found a hit from the TiVo store, where it cut off the term “water resistant” but the link just goes to the generic list of TiVo accessories.

So does anyone know of a RF remote that is water resistant?

Thanks!

I did see those, thanks! Only problem is they don't actually seal. The open end just shrinks around the remote so there's the potential for water infiltration. While it might be ok for the occasional splash, living in SW Florida where it rains basically every day, I need something pretty much waterproof.

While looking around I found a place called "clear bags" that have 3" x 8" 4mil poly zip bags - 100 for $6. Plus $7 shipping. I hate paying more for shipping then the actual item, but nevertheless the $13 solution works for me better then the gallon size bag it's floating around in currently.

Two bags. One in each direction. Or you can chase the unicorn... Haha

And it's a shame when places factor in costs with the shipping. Usually when I see that for that type of product, and they end up shipping it first class for a buck, I get annoyed.

The only RF remote that works with Tivo RF is a Tivo remote. They don't make any water resistant or waterproof remotes. So that's a dead end.

You could relax your no-IR requirement by adding a simple IR repeater and buying a cheap waterproof universal. The only visible part would be a tiny IR eye stuck to the bezel of the TV.

Another option is control over wifi (TELNET) with a universal remote app on a smartphone. I assume waterproof smartphone solutions exist, but I don't know any off hand. Of course dropping a smartphone on concrete is not ideal either.
