Episode 1 aired this past Sunday.
I enjoyed the episode, but need to rewatch as I wasn't paying 100% attention.
I saw the Movie 10 yrs ago, don't remember much and never read the graphic novel, but the reviews I've read say that it's not necessary to follow the HBO series.

I'm embarrassed to say that I didn't know about the 1921 Tulsa massacre, so I did a quick read on Wiki. Another sad part of US history (that wasn't taught when I was in school)

And gotta love a show that kills a major character in E1

I didn't know about it either. At all. And what was depicted in the scene of the show seemed so extreme, that I thought it was a fictional. Very surprised to find out afterwards that it actually happened.

Apparently, the way it was shown was totally fake.

The real-life planes didn't have machine guns, only bombs.
That would seem real to me. Bombs or bullets...does it matter?

I think Rob left out his [sarcasm] tag ;)

Yeah, I keep forgetting that no matter how dripping in sarcasm a statement is, some will always take it seriously... ;)

When I saw the planes strafing the crowds, I thought "Oh, come on!" And went to do a little research, and was surprised (stunned, really) to learn that the racists actually used airplanes to bomb black neighborhoods.
