I must say that I'm slightly disappointed in how the series wrapped up. The comic ending was so revelatory with the alien squid. And this ending felt so pedestrian. Especially with all of the evil overlord speechifying. That was one of the great things about the comic. The reveal came after the squid drop.

And the Veidt storyline didn't amount to much either. Just a way to introduce Veidt as savior in the end.

Also, what or who was lube guy? I didn't miss a reveal during this episode, did I?

I heard talk on a podcast that people assumed Petey was lube man. That he would show up in the last episode to save Laurie Blake. Well that didn't happen. Lube man just seems to have been a weird little bit that went no where.

I really liked this last episode. Love the series overall. Hope they come back for a second season, but I'm not counting on it. If this show comes to 4K Blu-ray, I will buy it.

Indeed, a bit disappointing. Dr. Manhattan reconstituted himself before so why can't he do it again?

If you read HBO's Peteypedia entries, it'll hint at the identity of Lube-man.

I think it could work as a True Detective-type thing, where each season is a more-or-less unrelated story set in the same world...assuming they come up with more stories as compelling as this one was.

I thought it was so great and I just want more. Even if it is only half as good. It is better than 99.99% of the stuff on TV today. This is the first show in years that I watched live every week.

Agree that the last ep was a TAD of a letdown, but I think ONLY because the other eps were so freaking strong and you could kinda guess some ways it would go.

If I was watching it again for the first time or told someone to watch it, I'd say watch eps 1-7 in a weekly fashion but then watch eps 8-9 back-to-back

Lindelof said as much in an interview I heard. He said he'd be really interested in seeing what another director/creator would do with this universe and even specifically mentioned how True Detective told different stories each season and how Cary Fukinaga was the primary person behind the visuals of S1 and then he left and others took up the reins in future seasons.

I was overall pleased with the finale. I was pretty impressed how they were able to satisfactorily wrap up all the various plots in a single episode. Lady Trieu was very arrogant to overlook the Keene goo that flowed into the cage.

Do we think Angela now has Dr. Manhattan's powers?

Lady Trieu was very arrogant to overlook the Keene goo that flowed into the cage.

That was part of why I thought the finale was lacking. The moment the goo flowed into the cage, it was obvious that was what DM was going to use to disrupt Trieu's plans. Evil Overlord 101 level stuff. How that could escape the "smartest woman in the world" is kinda of a head scratcher.

It never occurred to me that the goo was going to come into play until it did. When the goo started flowing, all I thought was, "that's a whole lot of goo from just one person".

I was kinda disappointed with the ending until the Egg reveal. I mean, I liked it, I enjoyed it. But somehow the 'ending' felt very flat. Somehow they even managed to make the ice squidding seem dull and mundane, as if they all ran out of energy just before filming the last episode. But in retrospect, it did kinda set just the right tone of complete futility, possibly entirely for the Egg reveal. And of course the Egg reveal suddenly made a number of seemingly unrelated scenes throughout the series make sense. All in all, completely unconventional, but it mostly worked.

And they managed to wrap it up in a way which worked, but won't leave me upset if there's not a season 2. It kinda ran it's course and wrapped up. And if someone takes a second shot at it, that's just gravy.

Yup, that was part of the reason why the comic was so great. Veidt didn't give the speech until after he had dropped the squid. If she was so smart, why didn't Trieu delay her evil overlord speech until after she had absorbed DM's powers?

I thought they missed the opportunity for drama. For example, the death of Keene. They had to have Laurie telling him over and over again that he was going to die. Of course he got turned into a puddle of goo. Lady Trieu, wanting to use the machine herself, why tell us that near the beginning of the episode? It just sets up a progression where you know she's going to kill Keene. Does Ozzy really need to explain why he had mirror guy reduce the temperature before dropping the squid? No! Drop the squid through Trieu's hand*, then have Ozzy explain what happened.

* Great shot, by the way, though strangely all the rest of the squid seemed quite non-deadly in comparison.

I felt like throughout the finale they were telling us what they were going to do, sometimes telling us two or three times, then showing us.

I didn't really feel like the Will Reeves plot made a whole lot of sense. Fine, he got all the cyclops leadership, but he really didn't seem to give a damn.

The only characters I really want to see in a second season are Ozzy and Mirror Guy. A Mirror Guy and Red Scare cop show would be great.
