I have a normal tivo. I was told to buy a splitter in order to watch tv and record at the same time. I hooked it up according to what a tivo rep told me to do. I know that all you have to do is change the channel with your tv remote while tivo is recording and it should be fine...only it isn't. I tried to record a program last nite, and then switched the channel to watch something else. When I watched the recorded program, it changed the channel and recorded what I was watching!!! What do I do? I'm so lost when it comes to technology!!! Please help!

Do you have a cable box that the TiVo normally controls? You can't use the cable box remote - you have to connect the second coax directly to the TV and use the TV remote to change the TV channel (not the cable box channel).

... and to watch TV "around the TiVo", you have to select the "Antenna" input to which "other" leg of the splitter (ie that isn't connected to TiVo) is connected and use the TV remote to control the channel. This only works for unencrypted analog channels - those that you can watch on a TV without using a cable box.

To watch the TiVo, select the TV input to which the TiVo output is connected and use the TiVo remote to control the channel.
