If I get a dongle for my iPhone to connect it via HDMI to a TV, can I stream programs on my iPhone, which will then appear on my TV's screen? Or will copyright issues prevent it from being seen?

Not sure about iPhones, but I'm doing that right now with my iPad Pro in a hotel - USB dock to power and put HDMI out to the TV. Runs fine, no copyright issues. Only problem is a wonky resolution because the TiVo app refuses to use the iOS standard media player so it stays stuck in "mirror" mode instead of native 1080p.

How?

There is no AirPlay icon in the TiVo app.
Use the systems built in airplay mirroring. Swipe down to open the control center, click the airplay icon next to the media square and pick the tv from there.
