Well ive been waiting and waiting, for years it seems. Right now im stuck with this 8300 HD PVR from COX in AZ. The software is a pain and buggy (stuff doesnt get recorded etc) it has no space, if i record more them like 6 or 7 shows in HD i run out of space it seems. Cox was saying they were upgrading to TIVO software and more space but none of that seems forthcoming. The other option is but an HD tivo box but then i have no PPV, which we do for sports, movies. Is there any way to do this ? is there any answer for this that doesnt seem to cost a small fortune. Its so frustrating because its not like the technology isnt there just that they cant put it together in one box. Sorry for the rant im just fed up early into new TV season and trying to record shows if i dont watch for like 2 days its all filled up

You can't order a PPV event through an HD TiVo, but you should be able to call up to order it and then manually tune to that channel. You also can't use On Demand with an HD TiVo.

You have two options.

1: See if you can order PPV for your one-way cablecard device by a phone call.

2: Keep a providers 2-way box for PPV events, alongside your HD TiVo.

Only if your area has dedicated channels for PPV. If your area uses the On Demand mechanism to implement PPV, then you are SOL on your S3.

ya cox uses this ON DEMAND stuff for the payperview, i use it usually for Fights (UFC etc) any chance they can do that with a HD tivo by calling in? anyone have any exp with that because ive about had it with this 8300 POS

why not keep the 8300 only for on demand and then run a TiVo HD for recording from channels. That way you get a TiVo HD, put in the big hard drive and then get it provisoned and just move the scheduled recordings over as you want.

Does the TV have a component and HDMI inout or two components, etc..?



PS - I would not expect to see TiVo on COX hardware until late in 2008 given the current Comcast delay in getting TiVo software rolled out

then it would seem your desire to get more recording space for regular HD shows far outstrips your desire for PPV.

Bottom line TiVo will not be able to do on-demand PPV in the foreseeable future
you will need to either call it in and be able to tune the TiVo to it
keep a cable company box capable of doing PPV in some fashion
do without PPV

I gave the cable co. their 8300 back and have a regular digital box now for on demand\PPV stuff. None of this programming is in HD, so it's no big deal and doesn't cost me but a couple bux a month.

For movies you can use Amazon Unbox, or just rent DVDs from Netflix or Blockbuster.

Is it really worth putting up with a buggy generic DVR for the occasional sports PPV offering?

What is the cheapest Cox set-top box that will get you pay-per-view programming? Do you have to get their DVR for this?

Why not watch the fights using the UFC website?

i have large home theater and usually have several friends over to watch the fights thus the reason to watch on the TV. They do have UFC in HD now(even though they charge another 10$ for it ) well im leaning towards getting another tivo though. Where is the best place to get HD one with good storage etc.

I currently have 2 series 2 with lifetimes on them by the way, nothing upgraded etc just regular. The HD one though goes in the Home theater in the basement so just wondering best way to go on that
