I had Virgin media installed today as I live in a poor tv signal area.
They supplied me with the Samsung stb, everything is ok -the Tivo can talk to the Samsung through the IR blaster...

The problem is, on the Samsung stb if you want to change to bbc2 you need to key in "102", channel 5 you key in "105". My Tivo, if you want to change to bbc2 sends the channel number "2", "02" or "002".

So, bbc2 on Samsung is "102"
Bbc2 on Tivo is "002"

What can i do to fix this problem? I NEED my Tivo back!!!! Can't live without it (The virgin stb is really awful -too slow and nasy menus).

Please help me!!!

Hiya Russ and welcome to the Forum!

You will need to re-run Guided Setup and tell it you now have Digital Cable.

This post lists settings I use and they work flawlessly:

Finally, make sure you turn the VM mini-guide OFF. Check the user manual on how to do this. (Of course, this is now the point where he says "what user manual?" ;))

Hi Carl,

Thanks for your help. I know this can be done as I see you have the same setup..

I did as you said & re-run the Tivo guided setup & it gave me the option to select Virgin Media as my cable supplier.

However I still have the same problem -When Im on the test the IR speed/frequency page I select the same settings as you, and when I change the channel Tivo says "changing to channel 71" and "71" appears in the top left hand corner of my screen. But my Samsung needs a prefix of 1 (171) and Tivo only offers a prefix of "0".

You say I also need to turn off the VM guide -I think I have already done this by setting its poup to 0 mins? Is that the same thing?

Please help. It's driving me mad!

Hi Russ

Think i had the same problem as you - apologies if I'm stating the obvious:

When you go into 'IR testing' - tivo just starts you off on a fairly random (low-ish) channel number - as its just there to test your IR
You just have to knock it up to a number thats actually useful to you, and if I remember rightly, if you actually type in '101' on the tivo remote, you can then see the channel, and test the channel up/down button

its not that it thinks you only have 2-digit channels, its just that it has chosen a crummy channel number to start you off on to testing the IR

If it always starts you on 72, just 'channel up' 29x times and you'll see that its all ok! (but the other way is faster/better!)

To change the subject slightly - I've been searching for this on the FAQs without much joy yet - Do you, or anyone else out there know how I can get Tivo to record off my samsung virgin media box through the Scart Aux input, rather than RF?

I can see it there in all its glory when I hit the AUX button, but tivo records in cruddy (and, in my case, ghosty) RF, and I cant seem to find an option in the Guided Setup to tell it to take my virgin media digital cable tv via scart... - help!!!

Many thanks in advance, and apologies again if I've missed a really obvious thread.

Hi Girlsnuts,

You're post is confusing me a bit (easily done).....You want to record from SCART but you are getting RF? Have I read that correctly?

How is your system set up? If you're only connected by RF then you will only be able to record RF. You'll need to add SCART connectivity into your system. Just post a list of how your system is connected & then I, or more likely one of the proper experts, will be able to set you right. For the record it should be something like this.

STB =>(SCART)=>TiVo=>(SCART)=>TV

If you have other equipment to be connected, list it & someone will give you a proper setup to try.

Girlsnuts, I tried what you suggested but Tivo wont let you type in the channel number on the IR page (only lets you use channel up/down keys) also Tivo only goes up to channel 73. My channels start at 101......

Hi Russ

sorry that didnt work - again, you may have tried this already, but did you select 'digital cable' as your service right at the beginning of the guided set up, and in service package choose 'digital basic'
(I tried Basic (A) and extended Basic (A), and it only offered channel numbers around the numbers you describe.

All the best,

Neil

Yep. That's the one :) Can't help with your other problems though as it's ages since I last ran GS. However, I think girlsnuts has the right idea.

Hi Martin

Thanks for the speedy response - I had my Samsung V box connected by scart only to my tivo, but for some reason guided setup would always take me through a section to find the rf output of the STB...
(forcing me to connect via the aerial lead to record anything!)

Tried guided setup one final time today, and didnt get that option, so am now in crystal clear Scart-land... so thanks for the post.

And glad to hear you're back in the world of the 3 digits Russ !

All the best,

Neil
