Videora Tivo Converter vs. DigitalLife TV

2190 Views 10 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  dnemec123
I'm trying to use the free Videora Tivo Converter to convert a DigitalLife TV video so that I can watch it on my Tivo. When every I try to convert the file, it completes after about one second. I looked at the Debug screen, and it lists the error:

"Unsupported codec (id=86018) for input stream #0.0"

Any suggestions for how I can solve this problem? It's happening with both the wmv and mov versions of the video. I have sucessfully used this program to covert videos from other sources.

Note that I can watch this video on my computer using Windows Media Player and Quicktime Player without any problems. Doesn't that imply that I already have a compatible codec installed on my PC? Maybe I don't understand codecs as well as I thought that I did. :)

Any advice will be greatly apprecisted!

Thanks!

I have the same problem as dwgsp and thought I would bump this back up to see if anyone had an answer.

Have you tried the xvid or mpeg4 feeds? Videora is uses ffmpeg, which I believe supports xvid (and possibly whatever flavor of mpeg4 DigitalLife uses for that feed).
I'm using the Tivoserver software to use the MultiRoom Viewing feature of TiVo to view the iTunes video podcasts.

No conversion needed.

Good news! I sucessfully transcoded the divx version of the file to mpg! I have no idea why Videora Tivo Converter liked the divx version, but I am quite happy that I found a method that works. Many thanks for the suggestion!

Can you explain how you did this?

Pretty easy, actually.

iTunes created a directory called Podcast under the "My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music" directory.

I simply pointed Tivoserver to use the Podcast directory within the "Documents and Setttings\<your-username>\Application Data\.tivoserver" directory in the settings.cfg configuration file. Note: the "Application Data" directory may be hidden. You can unhide it by opening Windows Explorer, click on the Tools menu choice, click on Folder Options, click on the View tab, and select the radio button for "Show hidden files and folders". Click on the Apply button then click on the "Apply to All Folders" button at the top.

Good luck!

I missed something. Tivo can only playback Mpeg2 video files.
What exactly are you playing back on your Tivo without converting?

I'm playing back the .mp4 video podcasts that I download via iTunes. It's true that TiVo can only play back Mpeg2 format files, so Tivoserver handles the conversion real-time.

Perhaps it's not supposed to work that way, but it is.

It is, but you've gone and fiddled with your kernel, haven't you? :) An unhacked TiVo can't see TiVoServer, can it? (if it can, I need to install it asap)

Ah! I see the issue now... yes, I've hacked my TiVo's in order to add Tivoserver.
