Sorry if this has been brought up before but I just bought the HR-10 and after reading this forum I am very confused if I should keep it or not. I called D* and they said that I am getting my locals in HD though D* in May 06. Will the HR-10 receive my locals in HD or am I going to have to replace it then? I am in St. Louis and my locals do send out HD but I would rather wait till May to get them rather then putting up an OTA.

May 06 seems to suggest MPEG4, meaning you would need the new 5 LNB dish and a newer receiver.

OTA is still an option and is one way to ensure you're getting your locals "from the horse's mouth" rather than being once again recompressed and rebroadcast.

If I get a OTA will I be able to use the tivo function of the HR-10?
Yes.
If you're using the HR10-250 presently for OTA then you're fine. The only problem you will have is if you want to get locals from the dish and not OTA. If you want locals via the dish in the new MPEG-4 format, you'll need the new dish *and* a new receiver...and they don't even make a HD DVR that can grab the MPEG-4 locals off the dish.

If you're in luck and can get OTA HD channels, then you'l be fine with the HR10.

Yep, that's what I use. I have two coax from the satellite and one coax from my outdoor OTA. The local OTA stations show up on the guide just like the rest of the DirecTV programs. I can record two shows at once -- two DirecTV, two OTA, or one DirecTV plus one OTA. The TiVo interface treats DirecTV and OTA programs as the same, it's very slick. Plus I now have access to all three of the OTA PBS substations, channel 5.1, 5.2, and 5.3. I watched a cool documentary this evening about the transoceanic cable that TiVo automatically recorded for me from PBS channel 5.2.
