I have the fios gateway g1100. I use all TiVo boxes. I wanted to use moca 2.5 and know that the router is only 2.0. So I was going to use my own router with a moca 2.5 adapter. Will this work? Is it worth the switch from moca 2.0? Thanks!

Quick thoughts...

• The G1100 is Standard MoCA 2.0, so would offer up to 400 Mbps throughput from another MoCA 2.0 node. MoCA 2.5 is capable of delivering full GigE speed.

• Just changing the main MoCA/Ethernet bridge won't be sufficient to boost your throughput. MoCA is a peer-to-peer technology, so two nodes will communicate at the highest spec supported by *both* nodes (i.e. limited by lesser node). Practically speaking, no TiVo gear natively supports anything more than Standard MoCA 2.0*, so simply upgrading your main MoCA/Ethernet bridge (the Standard MoCA 2.0 G1100) won't have any effect on TiVo throughput to your router, and communication between MoCA-configured TiVo boxes would remain limited by the lesser MoCA spec supported by the two boxes.

Possibly. It depends on how you currently have them networked.

If they're networked to the router via Gigabit Ethernet, no; a MoCA 2.5 path* would surely be an improvement over wireless or standard MoCA 2.0, though.

* meaning... upgrading to a MoCA 2.5 adapter as your main MoCA/Ethernet bridge, and add'l MoCA 2.5 adapters wherever you're looking for the improved bandwidrh.

What is your current Internet download/upload rate for which you're paying?

Ok, so there's obvious value in trying to establish GigE-level connections between your GigE-capable equipment (PCs, gaming consoles) and your router.
