My TV only has one HDMI input. We bought a simple HDMI switch/splitter which recognizes our ROKU and an older DVR, but it does not recognize the TiVo Roamio TCD846500.
We also tested on a TiVo TCD840300 Roamio Pro DVR to see if it would be recognized, but with no success.
Do we need a more complicated splitter switch?
Any advice?

Define what you mean by 'recognizes' it. Since Tivo does not turn off its output, except when its in standby, the video is always on otherwise. So you would need to manually switch it over to that input device.

Thanks for responding.
When switched to the DVR or the ROKU you get picture and sound.
When switched to the TiVo, which is not in standby, the screen remains black and the message is "No Signal HDMI Check cable/check source" like it does if the TiVo is in standby.
I have tried each device in each port on the switch and it remains the same. DVR and ROKU good, TiVo no signal. TiVo works fine when plugged directly into TV, as do the others.
Does TiVo use some sort of special signal?

What may be happening is there is HDCP, like security/handshake between the Tivo and TV. Try putting Tivo into standby, then take it off. (Tivo button, ChDn, Select, ChDn, Select), wait about a min and press Tivo button.

If that work, put Tivo in standby when you're not using it.

A simple HDMI switch SHOULD work fine with the TiVo (I know for a fact mine does with the Series 3 models).

Your problem could be related to the vile HDMI copy protection crap that has you immediately branded as a thief for connecting anything to the HD output. Normally you would get a message that says HDMI output not authorized, but maybe that switch is blocking it somehow? Try setting the TiVo output to fixed 480 i or p - that normally stops the copy protection from shutting off the HD output. Not an acceptable solution, but at least it might tell you what is going on.

The other thing to test is to re-boot the TiVo while the switch is set to that box. I know that when I boot one of the S3 boxes, the video is often blank during parts of the boot process UNLESS the HDMI output connection is active at the start of the Boot, so there is some handshaking going on for the HDMI output. With the S3, once the boot is done, you can switch the HDMI output without any problems, but maybe the Roamio is different?

What software is your Roamio running, TE3 or horrible TE4? I have an extra HDMI switch that I can test with my Bolt later today.

Just FYI - I have a very simple HDMI switch that I bought from Amazon (Techole HS304), and it has no problems at all switching the Bolt HDMI signal.

I've used a couple of HDMI switches in the past with the Roamio, a Roku and a FireStick with no issues. It sounds like the switcher you're using may not be the best choice. This is the one that worked for me:

I had this same issue when i got a new tv that was 4k. I plugged it into the tv and changed the resolution to 1080p and it worked just fine. I thing it was an issue with 4k not passing the embedded hdmi cable in the wall.
