Using a Null cable to get a Prompt

1058 Views 4 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  Da Goon
I have a null serial cable and I'm trying to get to the telnet prompt but I never see the login screen. All I see is a bunch of random characters. Can someone help me?

The box is a SA Series 2.

Thanks
Sam

Are you actually getting console messages or just a bunch of garbage? Your bootpage will need to contain dsscon=true and console=2,115200 and you'll need to start the bash shell from rc.sysinit.author or a similar startup script. Make sure your terminal settings are 115200 8-N-1.
Nothing legible just all characters can't be read. I set the the bootpage to those values and I changed rc.systinit.author as per the instructions. I was using the wrong terminal settings however. My ignorance on what the console=2,115200 meant and blindly following instructions that are apparently not applicable.

Looks like I'm getting text output now... thanks so much!!!

I'll let you know if I get to the prompt...
Unbelievable! I feel so much better... it worked. Thanks so much.

Now if I could only get my darn WUSB11v2.6 adapter to work life would be grand.
