No, the USB ports are only for a wireless adapter.

The current crop of USB tuners are only ATSC and QAM so they will only get you OTA HD programming anyway. Your series 2 Tivo is not designed to handle HD content so it wouldn't be feasible even if the USB ports supported the tuner. The Tivo itself has no means of utilizing an outboard tuner because of the way it's designed.

In other words, ain't no way in Hell it could work.

However if the question is "is there away to record digital OTA signals" with a Series 2 TiVo. The answer is somewhat different. Most single tuner Series 2 TiVos can control an OTA digital STB (many of the ones that the Gov provided $40 coupons for) and thus record OTA digital.

Check around the boards for many post about how that works.

Current as in literally available today, I presume you're correct.

But aren't there USB versions of the Ceton or similar 'cards' on the way? (As in done, taking orders, but not quite shipping yet?)

The only USB device a TiVo 2 supports is an Ethernet adapter, wired or wireless.

The Ceton USB tuner is not yet available and no date has been set for its introduction. SiliconDust just started shipping their 6-tuner version of the HDHomeRun Prime networked tuner and the 3-tuner version is expected to follow shortly. All cablecard tuners are currently certified to work only with Windows 7 Media Center. Hauppauge has announced a dual tuner model, but it's internal only.

The Tivo hardware and software is simply not designed to handle the input from a USB tuner. I'm not sure why the OP even cares about a USB tuner when the S2 Tivo can already TA programs using a digital converter box. It can no longer record directly from an antenna input now that all terrestrial broadcasts are digital.
