uploading mpg's from computer

I have uploaded several mpg movies from my computer to my Primer, they are in mpg, however the ff, rev etc doesn't work only pause. I get no bar just 0 min but they play. They have been converted from another format to mpg. Some were mov, some mp4 and some native mpg.
Does the Tivo play anything besides mpg?

.tiVo, .mpeg2, .mp4.

Not sure of some others.
I tried Mp4 but they do not show up in Now Playing on my PC
I forgot to put in my Pluss key after I reinstalled windows. Thanks
I have seen this behavior with an mpeg conversion of a .tivo file processed through VideoReDo.

In my case, it was a show originally recorded OTA on my bedroom TivoHD.
I transfered the show from that Tivo to my computer, edited with VRD, and then transfered back to my living room TivoHD.
I started a thread over at the VRD forums when I first encountered this.

I'm just curious as to why this happens, and whether or not it's a bug that can be squashed.
Where I've seen no time bar is with video in an MPEG-1 container. This is why pyTivo now remuxes MPEG-1 to an MPEG-2 program stream, although it doesn't have to reencode the video per se.

.
I have had the reverse
I rip VOBs from DVDs and use DVD shrink to stitch them together. If I just rename that to *.mpg a significant numbr of them exhibit what the OP saw -- and this is likely not a TiVo bug but simply that the frame info (j frames and i frames and such) is not complete and TiVo can not parse the video to know where it is or how to move around other than just paying the video.

I started using Videoredo to "remux" the file to a complete mpeg and videoRedo knows I have TiVo DVRs and makes sure all the frame info is neat and tidy. Have not had a playback issue since using VideoRedo
I had recently gotten a series of mpg files that I moved to the TiVo and found they didn't have the timing information. Very annoying, especially when you accidentally leave the program and then have to start over from the beginning.

Just for kicks, i moved them back to the PC using TiVo Desktop, or to another TiVo, then copied the new copy back to the TiVo. Now it has timing info and is perfectly watchable. Kind of a PITA to move the file 3 times before watching it, but it worked. I guess the TiVo does some processing work to it as it's sending it to the other device.
Can I transfer an mkv file from my PC to the Premiere through pyTivo?

Yes, but it will take a long time due to transcoding (unless WMcBrine setup ffmpeg to remux compatible files?). If the mkv is h264 video and ac3 or dts audio, you can remux the video and audio streams into an mp4 container that the Premiere will accept. If you use Windows, check my signature.
I need hints on what is keeping my Premiere from seeing my recordings on my HTPC. I have win 7 and tivodesktop. I have shared the tivo recordings folder in tivo desktop software and the premiere will find it but shows it empty when there are .tivo files and converting .mpg files from videoredo in it. This really makes no sense to me.

If the Tivo has not had transfers activated before, You should try log in to your account @Tivo.com/mma, then go to DVR Preferences and under TRANSFERS and DOWNLOADS, check those boxes for each Tivo. Then have the Tivo's make a Tivo connection. Then you may have to wait for it up to 24 hrs to get a Media Access Key.

They all transfer from tivo to tivo and they will download to PC and this particular one has been enabled for a many months. Strangely it sees recordings on my laptop but just hangs forever with the blue light on and nothing shows are transferring in the NOW playing section when I try that path. It is added to the todo list though. The only way to stop the blue light is to delete from thetodo list and power the thing down after hours of having the blue light on. The HTPC is hardwired not wireless like the laptop so I thought I would have better results but it can not even see the recordings on the HTPC. I remember getting this to work on my old TivoHD's but its a no go so far with the premiere. I havent tried to do it with my other two premeires. I was wondering if this is a windows 7 setting that is incorrect?
