Hi
Thought my original drive might have been starting to flake out since I was getting specific shows that would not record to DVD without giving an internal error (regular series, other episodes record fine), so...
I upgraded my RS-TX20 from the original 120GB drive to a Seagate 500GB 7200.10 retail drive kit I picked up from Frys a couple weeks ago. Figured even the retail Seagate PC drives were quiet enough so it would not be an issue, especially since it is behind glass doors in an entertainment center.
Well, the unit hums / vibrates. Loud enough to hear it 10-15 feet away. It is the drive spinning that hums, like it is out of balance. The clicking of the drive heads is pretty quiet I could live with that. I decided to pull the drive and go back to the original 120GB, which is a Maxtor drive (bought it new with this drive a couple years ago). Now the unit is quiet again.
Do the db35 drives vibrate like this too? Or did I get a bad drive? Like I said the drive head movement is pretty quiet, it is the constant hum of the vibration that is intolerable... If I pay a premium for a db35 drive, and it hums too, I am screwed. As it is, this 500GB drive will go into my PC and probably replace the 200GB in there.
Any suggestions / help / experiences appreciates.
