About the Korean CEO of the Baja Fresh mexican fast food chain.

I wonder if CEO David Kim reviewed the tapes before the show aired. Seems to me several employees had unkind remarks ie: "I'd never hire that guy" or "I never saw anyone drop a whisk into the guacamole before". Also, how long would that cold table be too warm had he not visited.

And yet, he wants to give the guy a free franchise, Huh.

No that's not the guy he gave the free franchise to. The guy with the cold table problem only got some help with business classes.

It was the younger guy that got the free franchise and he deserved it I think.
I think that the CEO should get in trouble for asking someone if they are a Christian. I am sure he already knew, but can you imagine if the employee was an Atheist? That question is even wrong from coworker.

If the CEO didn't know the employee's religion and the question was not even asked in order to see if he wanted to hire that employee or not, it could still put someone in a terrible position to answer that question.

I thought he made at least implications (or I inferred) that, in the future, they would both *possibly* get a franchise.

I'm as anti-religion as anybody, but I think you're hugely overreacting. IIRC, he had already said something along the lines of "thank god" at least once in his casual conversation. It was clearly obvious that he was a religious person.

I don't know about elsewhere, but in California you can get in so much trouble asking that kind of question if you are an employer.
There was a court case about hiring discrimination a few years back, where the interviewer asked the candidate, "Where are the good Mexican restaurants in town" He didn't get the job, and used that question as "Proof" that he didn't get the job because he was Mexican.
*THIS WAS NOT A HIRING SITUATION*.

BTW, this is not news at all.. Wasn't one of the questions that Lou Grant asked Mary Richards in the FIRST EPISODE of "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" 40 years ago what religion she was? ("You can't ask that.." <some other conversation> <Mary answers PREVIOUS question>.. "You know, you got spunk... I HATE SPUNK.")
If nothing else, I learned how FRESH their food is. If they had more healthy options, I would eat there more.
If asked a religious question by a co-worker, handle it like any other person asking that question. I may say "Thank God" all the time for all I know. I am a pantheist. It is an expression.
I would not have been offended by the question and would have answered "no".
The CEO seemed to have some serious relationship issues with his father. Quite sad, really.
I was amazed that the company is only 3-4 years old. They are everywhere!
Baja Fresh is actually over 20 years old, franchising for 15, Wendy's owned them (and lost tons of money bought at around 300 million and sold for 31 Million) for a while in the 2002-2006 and that is when David Kim's investment group bought them. He also also owns Denny's and Sweet Factory among other chains.
ahh...I must have just misunderstood that time frame. I thought that was awful short for how many places they have.
btw....I really don't enjoy the episodes where it's just give the employee money. I like the ones where they make real business changes based on what they actually learned from the employees.
I like when the CEO is put in a position where he can reasonably be expected to perform well. I don't like it when they put him in a position that normally requires training and then he looks like a buffoon. Like when they put him on the register at lunch hour. No one would be able to do that without training. Or when the casino guy was working at the tables. It takes a lot of training before a real employee is expected to do those things.
Baja Fresh, haven't eaten at one in at least 5 years. :) making the franchise at least that old.
We don't have a single one in Columbus any longer or in Ohio for that matter. Which is kind of surprising considering how many used to be around here when Wendy's owned them a few years ago.

I would agree with that. Even "easy jobs" take training. I have a pretty technical job and I wouldn't be able to just walk up to one of those registers and start inputing orders, especially if I didn't know the menu. Of course if I took that job, I'd have the menu memorized before I even stepped foot in the place.

They left Central Ohio in 2009, after Wendy's sold them off:

They've never been up here. And though I've never really been a fan of Mexican food, I've been to one just down the street from where I used to live in Sacramento (for a date, even).

I have never been to one. Always wanted to try it when they were popular around here, but just never made it.
