I noticed that Amazon recently redid their entire website, including the Unbox area. One of the new selection areas is for pre-orders and subscriptions. When you click it on, you don't currently get any options for subscriptions.

I assume though that this is going to work in tandum with NBC's new download service and the ability to subscribe to NBC Direct to get access to all their current shows whenever you want.

So if this is what Apple would NOT do (offer bundled pricing plans or subscription plans), I wonder if other networks will start to offer this as well via Amazon?

If you could pay $xx bucks a month for unlimited download access to all the shows on the major networks, would you, and what would you be willing to pay per network?

I don't think they are doing that.
I think they probably mean subscriptions of a per-program per-season basis, rather than buying each episode individually.

yah but if they let me choose from a selection and I can downlaod x number per month for x dollars I would be interested.
be a nice backup against screw ups where I miss shows or catch the start of some show I did not think I would watch eyc.. Plus no commercials to have to skip is cool :)

what i would pay depends on the content and terms. but if they could put together something interesting for 15$ a month I would check it out

Well, NBC is trying to push this new NBC Direct thing, and then Hulu is around the corner, but it is all download-to-pc content.

The ability to do some type of subscription model (ala cart pricing, whatever) is certainly not available via cable or SAT companies right now, so companies like Amazon and Apple are the only options networks can work with to get this available to the TELEVISION.

Apple is not open to it currently, so will Amazon step up?

I would consider a subscription model for x hours for $x a month...I would likely use it for movie content only. My season passes pick up network content....getting some content earlier like the NBC pilots was cool, etc.

That said, the price per month would have to be attractive. Right now, I'm paying a $1 a movie in the "special areas" and pay for exactly what I watch. Hard to beat that.

If a given movie is not in "special" one week, it may be next.

Given the general quality of Unbox videos, and the lost of "extras", etc. and lower distribution cost method...the trick will be to price it just right.

$10 a month for 5 movies or 12 hours of any kind of downloading seems reasonable, and certainly would be attractive and grab market share.

Has horrible customer service.
I'm sorry you had a bad experience. I personally have had super customer service. I had trouble downloading some Unbox shows initially, and the customer support folks got back to me right away and helped me resolve the problems. Also, all my emails have been answered quickly.

I sure would like to be able to request a download of a video I already own from my TiVo without having to buy it again or run to my PC to initiate a download. It is about time that got done.

Integration of your library into the purchase screens on Unbox website is overdue as well.

BTW, I've discovered that everytime you buy something you get another 2 licenses. I've "bought" free pilots using multiple TiVoes and have 4, 6, 8 licenses for some of them.

I have contacted Amazon.com Unbox helpdesk, and they informed me about using a portion of their site called: Your Media Library. This is where you can tell Unbox where to download your available movies and TV shows. As long as you have an available license for downloading, you will be able to have Amazon send the download to a DVR on your account.

The helpdesk agent also said that you can delete the Purchased (not rented) content from your TiVo and this will "release" your license so that you can download again in the future.

Hope this helps, as I had the same problem at first and wound up buying 2-3 copies of the same show, to have it downloaded to my other DVR's.

Though, I agree that re-downloading from your Unbox library needs to be added to the TiVo purchasing option on the TiVo box.

Yea, my account was billed for each purchase; I did buy the movie multiple times(in Amazon's eyes).

The customer service agent on the Unbox team, was able to cancel/refund my extra order's as a "1 time exception".
