I have been looking around my server and I have come across some .ty files from my TIVO S1 from back in the day that I would like to watch, but to be able to do that I will need to convert them.

IIRC I used to do this with TYTOOLS but that has no option to open files that are on a server rather than a TIVO. I have had a search around and I cannot see any obvious tool to use.

Any suggestions?

You could try VLC Media Player. I think that used to play them (I may be wrong though).

No VLC will not run them.

Anyone else got any ideas on how to convert them?

I recall using a tytompg conversion tool with our old Sony S1 to convert a handful of shows when I was ready to retire it.

Hi, you need to Use TyTools. you point that at your ty file, use VSplit mode this looks on your PC for ty files in the directory you select, create key files, edit if necessary, then from there you can create key and VoB files which you can then convert to MP4.

Yes. VLC will definitely play them. You need to download version 0.8.2 of VLC from here:
Index of /pub/videolan/vlc/0.8.2/win32/
Download the plugs-ins from here:
Tivo VLC modules - Browse /Windows binaries/r45 at SourceForge.net

Copy the plugin files to the plugin directory, and you should be able to open and play .ty files in VLC.

You can also associated the .ty files to VLC to play them directly.
