Is it possible to turn off the wifi and just run off ethernet. I'd been running off wifi for awhile and moved the box right next to the router. Figured I'd take advantage of the speed and use a cable so I plugged one in. I went into the settings to turn off the wifi but can't seem to. The Bolt found the ethernet cable when I plugged it in, but when I clicked on WiFi to change it from [ON] to hopefully [OFF] I get a "to use wifi you have to remove the ethernet cable. Just to be sure I checked my router and it shows the Tivo box is running off wifi vs hardwired.

Any thoughts?

I don't know anything about your router and have never used a Bolt (I have a Roamio) but I agree with @JoeKustra. If you plug an Ethernet cable into a Tivo, it should use the wired connection. So a couple things you can check:
  • I'd expect the Bolt to use wired over WiFi, but perhaps it only chooses on power up, so you could try rebooting the Bolt.
  • You could unplug the Ethernet cable which should then allow you to configure WiFi on the Bolt. Maybe with the cable unplugged you can then disable WiFi on the Bolt.
  • On the Tivo, in Network Settings it should tell you whether it's using wired or WiFi.
  • Perhaps your router still shows the Bolt's WiFi connection because the DCHP reservation for the WiFi hasn't expired yet. You could try rebooting your router to see if the Bolt again connects with WiFi.

That "to use wifi remove the cable" is the question you get from turning WiFi ON from an OFF state. Connect the ethernet cable. Reboot the TiVo. WiFi should be turned off. If not, disconnect the Ethernet, reboot it, turn WiFi off and then connect the hard line.
