Tuned to a channel not in the list of enabled channels?

Just an oddity / curiosity...

This morning I noticed that our Bolt (on Comcast / cable card) was tuned to channel 3 (a local station). This channel does not appear in any one passes, suggestions are disabled and channel 3 is not even enabled in the channel list. Checking in system information, it had been tuned to channel 3 for about an hour and a half while the other tuners had been tuned to other channels for far longer. This would rule out a reboot.

Thinking back on it, I am pretty sure there have been other times when I found the Bolt tuned to a channel I never watch and one that does not appear in any one passes.

Can anyone explain this behavior? Just curious is all.

Any chance channel 3 is in your favorites and a family pet has access to your remote /smile
Any channel can be selected by entering its number. There are no restrictions. I guess it's like butt-dialing? :)

Yeah, a single digit channel number can be entered by simply moving the remote. It wouldn't be unusual for your TV to default to ch3 after a power issue.

I guess that is a possibility. I do have a cat but she generally leaves the remotes alone. She spends the night with us and I am 100% positive it was not tuned to channel 3 when we shut down for the night.

No, channel 3 is not in my favorites. It is not even enabled.

You push 3 and wait for a second. Push 0 and wait a second.

Yes, I know how direct channel entry works. Only thing is that this happened overnight with no one around to push buttons.

i've personally pressed the 3 button more than a few times accidentally when setting down the remote, maybe you're doing the same without realizing?

I guess that is possible. And a bit more likely that I pressed 3 instead of "D" (for commercial skip). However, I just checked and pressing 3 has no effect unless watching live TV..... which we rarely do. And were definitely NOT doing at any time last night.

Not a big deal... I was just curious how it could happen. It can remain a mystery ;)

Don't guess. The tuner's Time Since Tune Start (in seconds) will give you when it happened.

Good point. I know exactly when it happened. I discovered it around 9:15AM and according to SYSTEM INFORMATION it had been tuned to channel 3 for around 4600 seconds at that point. It is possible I accidentally pressed 3 at around 8AM but I doubt it. The TV was not even on at 8AM and I for sure was not handling the remote then.... I discovered it when I turned the TV on at 9:30AM.

Who you gonna call... Ghostbusters!

FYI- your tv does not have to be on to change the channel on the TiVo. I’m still going with that sneaky cat.

also 4600 secs is less than an hour, so your times seem off. 9:15 or 9:30?

What now?

60 seconds in a minute times 60 minutes in an hour is 3,600 seconds.

The idea was that since the TV was not on, I was not anywhere near the remote.

Who ya gonna call...... firmware busters ;) Hey, it used to be a job skill.... I could break any software ;)

I have the same issue with channel 2. I find it in tuner diagnostics but it is not on my channel list or 1passes. What tuner number is your channel 3 on? is it always on the same tuner? I am on the latest hydra with a Bolt+.

While I have seen the Bolt tuned to a channel that does not appear in the One Pass list before, this was the first time I actually investigated it. This time, it was tuner 0. Can't say yet if it is always the same tuner.

Coincidence. I just checked my OTA Bolt VOX because of someone else's question and found it to be tuned to channel 2 and thought it was odd. I pressed channel up to tune to 2-1.

Not worth putting any more effort into it than that.
